Momo just had a seizure!

Had you on my mind so had to post and let you know. Praying Momo is feeling better AND that you can find out the cause so no more scares hopefully.

Columbo had an incident on Friday that sounds very similar. Columbo has been dealing with some health issues for the past couple weeks. He is under the care of an internist. Severe PLE/IBD. He has been responding to treatment so far for the past week. On Friday, I took him out to pee while I walked down to the mailbox to check the mail. I turned around to look at him and he was down on the driveway, legs flailing on the side, head back slightly. It looked like he was having a seizure. I ran to him and as I got down on the ground, he got up and was fine. This all happened in a matter few seconds, maybe 5-10. I called the internist, who had just seen him a couple hours before. She said that seizures usually last longer, usually 20 sec. or more, followed by some confusion and disorientation. So whatever it was, she didn't think it was a seizure. Possibly heart related, except his heart looked & sounded fine (xray & ultrasound). So she said to let her know if anything like that happened again. She checked him again on Monday and said heart and lungs sounded strong. Nothing like it has happened since, so now wondering if maybe he just slipped and fell somehow, although I've never seen him fall and end up like that. Anyway, I just wanted to pass on what the internist said about the seizure. Since Momo's happened so fast & he wasn't disoriented or confused after, it sounds like it might not have been a seizure.

I would so be at the emegency vet if Tibbe ever had a seizure. I'm sure I would think he was dying or something - but it would scare me right down the highway to the vet. I sure hope this isn't anything really seriously bad. It sounds so terribly scary.

I made an appt for 3:40 this afternoon @ a new vet hospital. I also wanted a recheck on his struvite crystals & this is the vet who saw Princess when she was sick w/colitis, he was very thorough. He also has a Yorkie. I have confidence in him & his staff, it's closer to our place too. I've been going to the other vet since they were puppies, so I had some sort of loyalty thing going on, but I think it's time to move on. Will keep you all updated. I'm on PST in CA, so it will be later than everyone else. I don't want to leave anyone out, but will answer all questions or concerns 1st. I Thank each & every one of you for your support & prayers, it means the world to us right now!

Yes & no. Yes it's a good sign that it only lasted a short time bc if the seizure (if indeed it was in Momo's case) lasts a long time, there can be brain damage. If the seizure lasts more than 30 mins, there can be severe permanent brain damage. No, might not be a good sign bc if they find nothing in the blood work & various other tests, they'll determine it by age & for his age, it's either a brain tumor or stroke...but won't dwell on that now.

Epilepsy would be a diagnosis only after anything/everything is ruled out with proper testing. Sorry you had to experience this. It's so frightening

I was good & only stuck to the link I posted last night (got the link from the new vet's website). I didn't want to scare myself more, couldn't sleep well, kept waking up to check up on Momo. Bolded red, gave thumbs up.

Momo is doing very well, completely normal, like it never happened. He ate his breakfast like it was the yummiest thing & he licked all the bowls clean like he always does. We joke that he's such a good boy, doing the dishes. Loll yes, no google.

I did have that thought, what if it wasn't a seizure? Then what could it be? I didn't see him fall, so IDK if he was seizure-ing b4 that, I headed back to the kitchen to melt another cube of broth for Mimi & Turbo. I only saw Momo on his side & his legs flailing bc Princess & Turbo started barking. By the time I ran over to him, he recovered & ran to Princess' bowl & finished her broth! If he was disoriented, could he have done that? I counted the 5-7 sec from when P&T started barking, so it could've lasted longer or shorter, I'm not sure. His last check up was earlier last month & his heart & lungs were fine. The only off thing was his s.crystals. I'll make a note for the vet to check his protein levels too. He'll be getting another urinalysis & a full panel blood test. He eats like a widdle piggie but can't keep weight on. I hope Columbo will be ok, it sounds like they had the same experience!

Yes, I thought he was dying! He was lapping up chicken broth mixed w/water, so he couldn't be choking. I read on the link that seizures that lasts longer or a cluster of them needs to be seen by a vet, so it made me relived that it wasn't an emergency. Momo didn't have another episode & it was a short one. Kat advised to check his pupils & gums & he ok there too.

Just seeing this Jenny!! I can only imagine how scared you were and still are. Years ago our JRT Petie had a one time seizure that sounds exactly like what you are describing. My vet told us to watch him closely and to bring him in if he had another one. He never did, it just happened that one time.
