Yorkie Talker | Enlarged heart My 14 yr old got a devastating diagnosis today. I am feeling sick. Enlarged heart, bronchial lobe , arthritis and 3 compressed discs, went blind in one eye. She is so active and would never have known she was sick. They want to do a ecco and ultrasound. I also have to go to see an eye dr for the eyes to check for glaucoma. I lost my husband 9/11 and she has been my only family since. We're together 24 hrs a day for..... I dont' want to put her thru all these tests at once. I can't bring myself to even imagine life without her. |

| OK, just try to break it down into smaller steps. This is pretty overwhelming. Have you scheduled the echo and sonogram? Then maybe get an eye exam following that. So wonderful that you baby is so active, but now she is going to have to be taken care of it seems. We never ever have them long enough! Keep us posted!

| Many many years ago I had a yorkie that had an enlarged heart. He was eleven and a half years old when I lost him and not because of his heart. He was on a medication that did wonders so just take a step at a time for your baby. I know this is very over whelming for you . I hope your baby gets well fast and things work out for you . Susan |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | It is hard to know what to do first, isn't it? Are you dealing with a specialty hospital clinic? First if not get yourself to one. An echocardiogram should be done by a cardio specialist as well as an opthamologist for the eye check. I am not sure what they want the ultrasound for - you mentioned bronchial lobe? Bronchialobe what is wrong with it? None of these tests are especially invasive but most are expensive. You might after listening to the second opinions ask the specialist what is in most need to be done first? The eye exam? The lungs? Or the heart? Given her overall medical condition how many more years might she have left? She is after all already 14 yrs old, which is a good age of life for a Yorkie. The arthritis for right now I would not worry about as she is roughly over 90yrs old and what senior does not have arthritis? How will the information you glean from these tests improve her quality of life for her remaining years? It is so very hard to watch our seniors age, and there are only individualized answers to the problems or challenges that do crop up. I am so very sorry you are going through these worrisome and heartbreaking times.
