| I am so scared I just got home from taking my little 12 year old Bear to the ER. When I got home from work he had thrown up at some point during the day. Bless his little heart, he led me to it and then hung his head as if to apologize. I immediately hugged and kissed him, telling him "it is okay". He NEVER gets in trouble for this type of thing. As a matter of fact he rarely gets in trouble for anything. We went for a walk and he seemed fine. I gave him a portion of his evening meal. Two hours later he threw up again. Within 10 minutes he threw up a 3rd time. When he threw up he was "choking". (The ER Vet is concerned he may have aspirated). I immediately took him to the ER. After running blood work she found that he has pancreatitis again. He has a history of this disease and is on a special diet. She said I did good by getting him in so soon. I am looking at his blood work and I believe it is the AMY that relates to pancreatits and it is at 1483. They gave him anti nausea meds and other meds to help him calm down. They brought him out so he could sit with me a few minutes and he was like a limp dishrag. But, strong enough to give me puppy kisses...ALWAYS taking care of me!!! Of course I had to leave him for the night so they could rehydrate him and continue to treat the pancreatits. I called just a few minutes ago and they said he is calm, but alert. They also said he is breathing better which is a good sign and a possibility that he did not aspirate. I am so afraid of losing him. I lost my husband 3 years ago to lung cancer (He was only 56) So my Little Bear is the only famly I have and he is such a special link to my husband (They were "buddies"). This house is way to quiet. I miss my little guy SO much. But, I had no choice, I had to leave him in the hospital so that he would get the care that he needs. I think I am more afraid of the aspiration than the pancreatits, and the pancreatits terrifies me! Sorry for the long post; just need to talk to people who understand this special bond that I have with my precious little guy. Thanks for listening! |

| I'm so sorry that you lost your husband to that nasty disease. Way too young and way too soon. I know Bear is what keeps you going on those most difficult days so I know your heart is aching with love, worry, and loneliness right now. Sending you hugs thru the cyber waves. Praying Bear gets better really soon and he is back in your arms where he belongs.

| Thanks Thanks so much for the replies and mostly for the prayers. He is my "little puppy angel". He loves everyone so much. He just senses when people are hurting and he tries to make them feel better. He is in a ER that has Vet, Tech and others there all night. I left him at 8:30 and have already called once. They were so kind telling me to call as often as I want. I am going to call again in a few minutes and then try to get some sleep. They said he is the only one in the "hospital" at least for now, so he should get plenty of attention. Before I left the tech and vet were loving on him telling him how brave and cute he is. He is such a "ladies man" ;-) Please keep praying! Thanks |

| Your sweet baby sounds so much like my Tibbe and I can tell you are scared to death. I wish a few of us could be there now to just give you a hug. I'm glad little Bear is getting rehydrated and some good care in the hospital to set him straight again and from reading on YT, I know that pancreatitis can be managed fairly well and hope that that is the case for little Bear. Hopefully he didn't fully aspirate and just choked and nothing bad will happen from that. I hope he's feeling better tomorrow and the regimen of care he is put on will set him to rights fairly soon so he can get back to his job of loving for and caring for his mommie - the job that likely is his favorite. I have added your little angel boy Bear to my prayers and you as well. I know you probably won't sleep much tonight but hope that you can get some rest. I'll bet your little Bear will sure be happy to see his loving mommie tomorrow and no doubt being in the arms of his mommie will be healing for him. Keep us posted on how both of you are doing.

| It is 12:30am here....thinking of you as you fret and worry over your baby boy....I hate "fear"...it is a terrible dibilatating feeling and I worry about people so, when they are afraid....I too, wish we could be with you and surround you with hugs....... The one thing about our babies, our Yorkies, they steal the show whenever they are taken anywhere....that includes the vet....I know mine always have ended up spending time in everyones lap, or in their offices, or just constantly surrounded by the staff, getting all the attention! I certainly do not know for sure, but I feel like he is going to be fine....like it was said, this disease can be managed and you were on top of his symptoms immediately, not wasting time waiting and watching.....I really do think he will be home with you soon, feeling a whole lot better! I hope you are sleeping right now....will check back next trip to bathroom! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 02-04-2013 at 10:38 PM. |
