I think my dog had a fit? I got my dog yesterday from a breeder she is a miniature yorkshire terrier 6 weeks old. I had her on my lap wraped up and suddenly her whole body started shaking for about 5 seconds and then went limp like a ragdoll i then picked her up and she stayed limp for about 5 seconds and then started moving again. Could somone explain what happened? I was really scared, Thanks.:( |
Hi and Welcome to YT! It's very possible... Has she been seen by your vet? Do you have experience in caring for very young puppies? If not, I would ask your vet for very specific instructions on feeding, dangers of hypoglycemia, pottying, etc. or you can find them here... |
She's only 6 weeks? I would DEFINITELY take her into a vet. Right now. And then once things are calm (if she comes back home today) then come back on here and take a look at our many puppy info threads. 6 weeks is really, really young. I hope that she's ok! And welcome to YT. I have an ex from Nottingham. :) |
No we have not taken her to the vets yet but we will take her very soon. I do not have any experience with young puppys but my family do. Thanks you very much :) |
she is very young and can go downhill very quickly, I hope you can get her to a vet soon |
Oh my, she is so very young...please get her to a vet. She is to young to be away from her mommy, but i guess whats done is done. Now, she is going to need some special care for several weeks in order to thrive. Bumping this so the more experienced folks with one so young may come on and offer some advice. |
Definatly the vet asap:) I hope everything is okay. That sounds very very scary. I would try to get ahold of the breeder, maybe she would be willing to keep the pup with mom for another month or so. But either way a vet visit is in order. At least you can talk to the breeder about what happened, and if this is the first time it happened. Has she been eating well since you got her? What is she eating? Did this happen yesterday or today? How is she acting since this happened? |
Contact your "breeder" immediately. Take this enfant to the vet immediately. This is NOT normal and may be why your "breeder" kicked this baby to the curb at such a young age....before it cost HER anything in vet bills. The mortality rate for puppies that, at a VERY young age, are placed with inexperienced owners, is very high, especially if they start out with medical issues. |

I agree with others...that baby needs to see a vet asap! I hope you can get her there! |
She did have a fit. Most likely a preepileptic attack due to low blood sugar. However it could be another medical issue either way this warrents immediate medical care...as in you should have ran out the door to a vets right away. Not too late please go immediately before this happens again-it is life threatening. |
Thanks for all the replays. Could anyone link me to a page with info about what special care I need to give her? |
Your vet needs to see the pup and diagnose the reason for the seizures before anyone can tell you about the needed care. You need to see a vet immediately if you care about this pup. YT members are knowledgeable, but are no substitute for vet care. :( |

Sounds like a seizure. Your pup is VERY young and quite honestly too young for it to be away from it's mother. Sounds like a back yard breeder. You definitely need to take it to the vet and find out the underlining cause. |
