| I am just now seeing your thread. I am so sorry that your little one is having a hard time after surgery. I hope that since you haven't been on in a couple of days, that you have good news. My Lola had the shunt surgery several years ago and was very calm after the surgery, but never did seem to feel particularly bad. We used the pain meds for a few days and kept her very, very quiet. I did not let her out to play or let her jump or climb stairs for 2-3 weeks because I was afraid of the ring slipping. Lola was never a big eater so I did not see a huge difference in her appetite. Have you tried the Royal Canin LS kibble? I had to put it in a food processor and break it up for Lola, but she used to like that. If Becky is still not eating, I would suggest calling University of TN and explaining to them what you had done and ask to speak to someone that might have some other ideas about what she may eat. They are very kind. Please let us know how you and little Becky are doing.... |

| Hi.... Checking in to see how your baby is doing. My own dog had liver shunt surgery and I have fostered many dogs who have had the surgery. Is she on any supplements? Or only prescription food?

| Hi... I think I talked to you a while back... helped to find a vet closer to you... I'd keep in close contact with the surgeon... pain meds can decrease the appetite too... very important to keep her quite... no jumping, running and stuff... she is on the same diet and meds as before the surgery?

| It is soooooooooooo frustrating when we get, however superficially, "emotionally involved" with a sick or injured baby, where the op has asked for help......It has been since 1/22 since we got an update on this baby. Now I am sure op is busy, so just a couple of words would suffice....PLEASE let us know how this baby is doing....WE CARE........ |

| I am certainly no vet, but I would think so. Have you followed up with your vet? I would suggest contacting someone that knows far more than the different opinions you will get on these boards. Not to say that these opinions are not helpful, they are, but no one can see your baby or experience first hand the type of behavior you are talking about without seeing her in person. So much is lost in translation while writing on message boards. If she is gradually improving and staying hydrated and eating, Iwould think she will be fine, but once again, I'm no expert...just another that has gone through this with my own baby. Lola is much healthier and much happier - she does have more energy and did gain weight after surgery, but it did not happen overnight. It took time. Be patient and calm, be positive and watch for any unusual symptoms with her. If anything unusual seems to happen, contact your vet. Good luck - don't hesitate to come back and ask questions and update...our thoughts and prayers are with you and Becky! |

I know how hard it is, but remember your baby will feed off of your anxiety too and that might hinder in her recovery her body is in such stress from the surgery if she feels your stress her body and mind isnt able to just work on healing. (this is just my personal opinion)

Please re-read my post!!!!!! I did NOT say YOU were superficial....I said WE get emotionally envolved, even superficially, with these unfortunate situations...."superficially" used to indicate that we do not know you or your baby, we are not intimnately involved with you and the situation, and yet we stop and worry and are concerned about you and your baby!!! Thank you for the update! | |
