Luma is going to be fine....it is YOU that needs attention. I dont think you are realizing how dangerous this is for YOU! You are very non concerned about this situation for YOU! YOU have been started on rabies shots! This is not a series that you start then just dont complete. There is not a credible doctor alive that would let their patient blow off the rest of the series, especially when the person sustained a bite from an unknown dog that was NOT caught! And time is of the essence....you cant just wait 6-10 days and then decide well maybe you will....or maybe you wont....there is an incubation period for rabies....in other words, if that dog that bit you does have rabies (and I would not think it did, but I would NOT take that gamble, as rabies is FATAL in 94% of the cases in humans) I am concerned you did not get the first TWO shots they give after the initial exposure, and because of you not wanting to disrupt or "ruin" your Christmas, you wont continue the series on the days they are to be given....they are each given on a specific day, until the series is completed! This is VERY IMPORTANT for you to complete this and I am not getting the feeling YOU realize the seriousness of this for YOU!!! And now you wont be back on until after Christmas????????

Please keep us posted on any info about the dog who attached you and Luma. Hopefully they or it will be found and dealt with and the owners held accountable.

She said she is going to follow up with her doctor...surely he/she will see that she gets the rest of those injections? I don't think they need to be given immediately??? She does definitely need to find out! I would hope the ER told her this when they gave her the first one. Yikes!

Here is Michigan's protocol. If owner wants dog and it shows no signs of rabies then it is quaranined and not euthanized. If animal is a stray it can still be quarantined during the holding period.

Oh no... I hope all iss well with you both!

Glad to hear you both still doing okay and I saw that you had an appt. with your primary doc plus I knew, if the E.R. you went to anything like those here, they beat you over the head and get in your face about the need to finish the series of rabies shots and tell that you could die of rabies if you don't! You have to sign special forms, you get a copy, etc., and the doc must report the bite to authorities to be sure the public is kept safe. A bite from a dog or other critter can become a serious public health problem should the animal be rabid so bites are treated very seriously here. More than one nurse plus your doctor usually tells you all of this. Someone likely will follow-up with you to be sure your completed your rabies series and your dog, too, if it wasn't current on its rabies vax.
