Luma was attacked... Firstly she is OKAY...I am out of town on holiday and decided to take Luma out to go potty while we are at a friend's...I put hrr harness and leash on and we went out. We were still in his garage (door was upp) and a stray dog lunged towards us. I got scared and yanked luma up in the air but the dog bit her...I had to kick it to make it let go...Luma was crying and I rushed to the car and Was crying ended up calling 911 becuase I dont know an emergency vet here. Luma got bit on her tummy and her leg...not too bad but there was lots of blood and she is shaken but not whining when I left. They are doing xrays because I thought her leg may have been hurt.. I had to leave to go to the hospital for myself becaude I got bitten too...I didnt want to go but animal control came and made me get it checked so please just keep us in prayer :( I'm so scared there may be internal damage to Luma since she was bitten in the stomach...they are checking her out. The dog came out of nowhere and I'm so sorry my little baby I let you get hurt...sooo sorry I love yoy my sweet little baby. Mama is sorry... |

OH my goodness, poor Luma, poor you, this just sucks. I am praying that she will be OK, please keep us updated. I am so sorry for you, I can just imagaine how scared you were, thankfuly you were smart and had her on her leash, you can not blame yourself, you did nothing wrong and I know you would walk through fire to protect Luma. (((((((hugs)))))))) |
Oh my golly, What a nightmare, Carmen! I am so worried about you both. Did you find a vet, or is animal control doing the X-rays? Please let us know as soon as possible how she is doing. It sounds like she was bitten pretty hard. And what about you? How are you? Where were you bitten? Did they catch the dog? Oh Carmen, I'm so, so sorry. You must have been scared to death. I will pray. Don't blame yourself. You did all you could. You're such a good Mama to little Luma. You were both very brave. Love, blessings and prayers for you both. |
I am fine. They made me leave her at the er vet to get myself checked. I got a prescription for antibiotics and rushed back to see her. She's stable, temp is good, xrays show nothing is broken...which is a complete wonder...I was convinced her leg was broke because she would not move at all. The bite on her stomach was superficial and they cleaned it. The leg had something called dead space? I think? The skin was pulled from the tissue so they are draining it I guess for infection I dont really know :( I let my boyfriend handle all of that because I was barely listening to anything they've said, just staying by Luma's side. She wont drink or eat so they are keeping her overnight. I wish I could stay right in here with her. Merry christmas...not...animal control is still looking for the dog last I heard. I feel like an idiot because they all belittled me for not being able to tell them where the dog came from or ran off to. Like I can be concerned with anything else right now besides Luuma. It's so unfair. I feel HORRIBLE and I just wish we could bring her home... |
Oh my God, I'm sorry your all going through this...scary I'm sure. You have had a pretty rough year for sure, I sure hope 2013 is much better for you...it seems when it rains it pours and you've just had one thing after another this year...please keep us posted and take care of yourself tonight, please keep an eye on your wound as well. ((((hugs)))) |
I just can't stop crying. Why did this happen to the most precious baby there is? I fele such deep guilt. I know it could be so much worse but she didn't deserve this...Tony said lets bring a potty pad into he friend's house..she is pad trained...I didnt want to do that. I said I can just take her out. Never again... |
Aww, hun, don't let them make you feel bad. You were doing the best you could to protect your baby and yourself. How scary! I'm glad Luma is ok. I know you want her home, but I'm glad she's being cared for there tonight. That way they can watch her vital signs, and make sure she stays well tonight. I know it's going to be impossible, but try to get some rest. Eat a little something so the antibiotic doesn't upset your tummy. I'll pray Luma is able to rest tonight, and comes home in the morning. Thanks for taking the time to update us. |
Oh my...I am SO sorry this happened to you and Luma. Sounds like you will both be ok, but what a horrible thing to have happen. Will keep you both in my prayers. |
Just today I took my 2 out for a walk. Got in front of the neighbors house and maybe 50 feet away, on the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street, there was Doberman all by itself. I had never seen this dog in the neighborhood before, and I jerked mine back into the house first. Another time when I was walking only one, we were jumped by two German Shepherds. The woman walking them just couldn't control them and they got away from her. I pulled Jez up in my arms, so they were only able to scratch me and not get to her. Man did I ever give that woman a piece of my mind. It's scary. You never would expect that given that you were still in the garage! I'm glad that everything seems to be something that can be recovered from. Did they not suggest that you take precautions for rabies? |
Oh my goodness. That is so scary. I am glad yall are mostly ok. Are you going to have to get rabies shots sense it was a stray dog? Praying for you and Luma! |
Oh gosh, I am so sorry to hear that this happened. What type of dog was it? You must have been so scared... We have been approached by aggressive looking dogs on our walks and I don't know what I would do if we were attacked :( I carry mase, but I worry that I wouldn't be able to spray it fast enough. I will be thinking about both you and Luma. Please update us when you can. |
Omg I just saw this posting. Poor little Luma. I am so sorry this is happening. I can not believe they made you feel bad. You were protecting Luma and yourself. I am glad you and Luma are getting the care needed. Hugs to you both. Good thoughts and blessings to both of you |
SoSo I just found out that my bf was helping animal control look for the dog, and a neighbor came out to see what was going on. He said just hours ago he saw a girl walking her little dog and two black pitbulls came out of nowhere chasing her!! I cant believe it. Its extremely likely one of those dogs was the one who went after Luma. I'm shaken at the thought that there were TWO of them...thank God only one came after us...if both had attacked, things couldve been so much worse...well animal control has their hands full and the dogs were working together. I hope they had tags because if so, those owners will definitely be hearing from me and will be held responsible for what happened tto Luma and myself, even if I have to take them to small claims court. |
I feel so bad for what happened to you and Luma, but thankful you are both okay. What thing to take the joy out of the holidays. I hope you both feel better tomorrow and that they are able to find that dog. That had to be so terrifying for you and Luma. Hugs to you. |
You two had an extremely close call. Anybody that belittled you for not noting details of the attacking dog when you are trying to save your dog's life and limb should be reported to their supervisors and a complaint registered against such insensitivity and unprofessionalism! You had just been through horror and they have the gall to put you down!?!?! I can tell you they have never had to fight for their baby's life against an attacking dog so just tell them to shove the attitude, get a clue and read a little about traumatic shock reaction! I've been in that sudden attack situation and the only thing you are processing mentally is fighting to save your dog, get that beast off it and get your baby help. Shock and stress invade the brain and your body and you often blank entirely on even the basics of the event, let alone details. Later, when you aren't so stressed, you likely will remember other things but right now, your brain is still in fight or flight mode, overstressed and pretty much just concentrating on the here and now. I'm so grateful neither of you was seriously injured and that Luma didn't have to have a lot of surgery, I just can't contain myself! It sounds like she will be fine medically in time and you, too. Don't feel such guilt over what happened. You know from reading post after post here, news reports and watching TV that this happens all the time. It is the irresponsible owner of the loose dog who is at fault - not you!!! God bless you and little Luma. |
OMG Carmen!! That's AWFUL! I'm so sorry that you and Luma had to go through this, especially little Luma!! I'm so, SO glad to hear that Luma is OK. I don't think I could handle any other news. Please don't feel guilty. You helped save her life by your quick reactions and do not let ANYONE make you feel otherwise! |

OMG Carmen!!! How terribly horrific for you and Luma to be attacked like that and inside a garage no less!!! Who would ever think of being on the defensive when you in an inside space:mad: I am thankful that it didn't end up worse than it was and it is bad that it happened at all (through NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN!!) I will keep sweet little Luma and you in my prayers. |

OMGosh! What idiots to make you feel bad! No, no, no ,no! You did exactly what you should have done! I'm almost in shock just reading about your ordeal, more so bc I've been there too, and it's all anyone can do just to make yourself and your pup safe from the attacker(s). One doesn't care where the dog has gone, only that it IS gone, and then you move right on to getting medical care for your pup and yourself! And don't feel guilty, I would have also wanted to walk my dogs. I like for them to be able to explore new areas. What's the point of visiting/travelling, ya know? Poor Luma is probably still shocky herself. And yes, dog bite wounds need to be kept open and draining to prevent infection from setting in. Antibiotics can only do so much, treating the wounds properly allows for quicker healing. Keeping you both in my prayers... I got so hypersensitive after one ordeal, I starting calling 'going for a walk' 'going for a jerk' bc it seemed like I was always jerking my baby up and away from strange dogs (on and off leash) 2-3 times on every walk! Crying is normal... I got so shakey and rubber-kneed once I could barely make it home (I was 2 houses away!). I had to stop in another neighbor's driveway to compose myself a bit before continuing on to my house. I cried, got angry at the dog and the neighbors, then cried some more bc I felt so weak afterwards... it will get better. We never know how things are going to affect us. Thank God you will both be okay! Hugs to you and Luma... |
OMG Carmen. Poor you and Luma. I'm so glad you and her both got checked out and that you both are okay. I hope they find the dog that did this. That's so horrible :(. |
First ... you are a hero... you did not do anything wrong at all. You should be able to walk your dog for goodness sakes!!!!!! You just lived one of my fears... I know I can "jerk" Remy in my arms but what would I do with the other two (Baily would try to defend me but what can a 25# shih tuz really do?). We really don't have a problem here but it just takes one stray!! I have a tazer and I have been thinking of carrying it with me. Maybe you should get one? Just to give you some peace of mind? Please take care of yourself... crying is healing. We are here to talk if you need us. Sending hugs and prayers... hug that bf of yours too!! |
Carmen {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} I am so sorry for you and Luma. How is she doing today? This is one of the scariest and most traumatic things to experience as a doggie mom. I am so thankful that you and Luma weren't hurt any worse than what you were. Praying for your little girl and you. |
omg carmen my heart dropped im just seeing this havent read the whole thread but i hope luma is ok. it is not your fault carmen it has happened the best trained owner and pup! im so sorry this happened and my prayers and thoughts are with you both. i hope you are both doing better today. |
hoping today will be better for you both, and I hope they find the dogs and the owners, it makes me so angry to see dogs run loose. I am so glad it was not worse than it was. ((((((hugs)))))) |
carmen never let someone make you feel that way...if you werent watching luma 100% she couldve been hurt so much worse. you were doing your job protecting her. i pray they find these dogs so no others are harmed. im glad you were on high alert to make the dog leave luma be. it makes me so upset that this happens i can only imagine your emotional state. keylo sends luma lots and lots and lots of licks and love. we r very thankful you are ok and i pray luma is also!! hugssss and love to you both. wez think the world of you both and would never want anything bad to happen to youz. xo |
OMG, that is so scary! Please don't beat yourself up about it, as you did everything right! It is just wrong when you can't take your pets out for a walk without someone else being irresponsible by letting their pet roam free! I pray that you both have a speedy recovery. Have a very blessed Christmas, too! |
I could hardly stand to read heat happened to you two. You did a great job of protecting Luma - it could have been much worse. Keep us posted about both of your recovery. I tremble to think what it could have been if you had not reacted so quickly. Blessings! |
Just saw this...I'm so sorry you both were hurt. It's horrible and thank goodness you both will be ok, but so terrifying. Sending prayers and hugs to you both. |
Which dog control agency are you working with? |
How awful. I hope you and Luma are doing better today. How could animal control expect you to remember details when you are in an unexpected attack. Crazy. Just as long as you and Luma are OK, that's the most important thing. Sending prayers and hugs to you both. |
