You two had an extremely close call. Anybody that belittled you for not noting details of the attacking dog when you are trying to save your dog's life and limb should be reported to their supervisors and a complaint registered against such insensitivity and unprofessionalism! You had just been through horror and they have the gall to put you down!?!?! I can tell you they have never had to fight for their baby's life against an attacking dog so just tell them to shove the attitude, get a clue and read a little about traumatic shock reaction! I've been in that sudden attack situation and the only thing you are processing mentally is fighting to save your dog, get that beast off it and get your baby help. Shock and stress invade the brain and your body and you often blank entirely on even the basics of the event, let alone details. Later, when you aren't so stressed, you likely will remember other things but right now, your brain is still in fight or flight mode, overstressed and pretty much just concentrating on the here and now. I'm so grateful neither of you was seriously injured and that Luma didn't have to have a lot of surgery, I just can't contain myself! It sounds like she will be fine medically in time and you, too. Don't feel such guilt over what happened. You know from reading post after post here, news reports and watching TV that this happens all the time. It is the irresponsible owner of the loose dog who is at fault - not you!!! God bless you and little Luma. |
OMG Carmen!! That's AWFUL! I'm so sorry that you and Luma had to go through this, especially little Luma!! I'm so, SO glad to hear that Luma is OK. I don't think I could handle any other news. Please don't feel guilty. You helped save her life by your quick reactions and do not let ANYONE make you feel otherwise! |

OMG Carmen!!! How terribly horrific for you and Luma to be attacked like that and inside a garage no less!!! Who would ever think of being on the defensive when you in an inside space:mad: I am thankful that it didn't end up worse than it was and it is bad that it happened at all (through NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN!!) I will keep sweet little Luma and you in my prayers. |

OMGosh! What idiots to make you feel bad! No, no, no ,no! You did exactly what you should have done! I'm almost in shock just reading about your ordeal, more so bc I've been there too, and it's all anyone can do just to make yourself and your pup safe from the attacker(s). One doesn't care where the dog has gone, only that it IS gone, and then you move right on to getting medical care for your pup and yourself! And don't feel guilty, I would have also wanted to walk my dogs. I like for them to be able to explore new areas. What's the point of visiting/travelling, ya know? Poor Luma is probably still shocky herself. And yes, dog bite wounds need to be kept open and draining to prevent infection from setting in. Antibiotics can only do so much, treating the wounds properly allows for quicker healing. Keeping you both in my prayers... I got so hypersensitive after one ordeal, I starting calling 'going for a walk' 'going for a jerk' bc it seemed like I was always jerking my baby up and away from strange dogs (on and off leash) 2-3 times on every walk! Crying is normal... I got so shakey and rubber-kneed once I could barely make it home (I was 2 houses away!). I had to stop in another neighbor's driveway to compose myself a bit before continuing on to my house. I cried, got angry at the dog and the neighbors, then cried some more bc I felt so weak afterwards... it will get better. We never know how things are going to affect us. Thank God you will both be okay! Hugs to you and Luma... |
OMG Carmen. Poor you and Luma. I'm so glad you and her both got checked out and that you both are okay. I hope they find the dog that did this. That's so horrible :(. |
First ... you are a hero... you did not do anything wrong at all. You should be able to walk your dog for goodness sakes!!!!!! You just lived one of my fears... I know I can "jerk" Remy in my arms but what would I do with the other two (Baily would try to defend me but what can a 25# shih tuz really do?). We really don't have a problem here but it just takes one stray!! I have a tazer and I have been thinking of carrying it with me. Maybe you should get one? Just to give you some peace of mind? Please take care of yourself... crying is healing. We are here to talk if you need us. Sending hugs and prayers... hug that bf of yours too!! |
Carmen {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} I am so sorry for you and Luma. How is she doing today? This is one of the scariest and most traumatic things to experience as a doggie mom. I am so thankful that you and Luma weren't hurt any worse than what you were. Praying for your little girl and you. |
omg carmen my heart dropped im just seeing this havent read the whole thread but i hope luma is ok. it is not your fault carmen it has happened the best trained owner and pup! im so sorry this happened and my prayers and thoughts are with you both. i hope you are both doing better today. |
hoping today will be better for you both, and I hope they find the dogs and the owners, it makes me so angry to see dogs run loose. I am so glad it was not worse than it was. ((((((hugs)))))) |
carmen never let someone make you feel that way...if you werent watching luma 100% she couldve been hurt so much worse. you were doing your job protecting her. i pray they find these dogs so no others are harmed. im glad you were on high alert to make the dog leave luma be. it makes me so upset that this happens i can only imagine your emotional state. keylo sends luma lots and lots and lots of licks and love. we r very thankful you are ok and i pray luma is also!! hugssss and love to you both. wez think the world of you both and would never want anything bad to happen to youz. xo |
OMG, that is so scary! Please don't beat yourself up about it, as you did everything right! It is just wrong when you can't take your pets out for a walk without someone else being irresponsible by letting their pet roam free! I pray that you both have a speedy recovery. Have a very blessed Christmas, too! |
I could hardly stand to read heat happened to you two. You did a great job of protecting Luma - it could have been much worse. Keep us posted about both of your recovery. I tremble to think what it could have been if you had not reacted so quickly. Blessings! |
Just saw this...I'm so sorry you both were hurt. It's horrible and thank goodness you both will be ok, but so terrifying. Sending prayers and hugs to you both. |
Which dog control agency are you working with? |
How awful. I hope you and Luma are doing better today. How could animal control expect you to remember details when you are in an unexpected attack. Crazy. Just as long as you and Luma are OK, that's the most important thing. Sending prayers and hugs to you both. |
