Oh my goodness! I have been away from computer and just saw this. Carmen, don't you feel guilt for one second! You did exactly the right thing and you saved your baby and yourself.

How are you both doing this morning? Are you going to have to have a rabies shot since nobody knows the dog's history? I will check in later for an update.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you and Luma. It makes me sooo mad when irresponsible people let their dogs run free. I hope they find the dog and you can get some satisfaction by having them prosecuted by the local animal control. Good luck.

Morning everyone, I'm sorry I slept so long. I got an rx for pain and they really knocked me out. I did get a rabies shot as well. Luma is SO BRAVE!!! Tjhats what everyone told me! She is a little trooper. So tough. She's doing great and her leg is not too bad at all. It wasn't a deep puncture, the dogs tooth just made a wide hole on the skin so she got some sutures and antibiotics. She is HOME!! Well, at my boyfriends parents house at least. We are leaving to go back to College Station instead of staying here got Christmas. It would be too much stress on Luma being crated all day or being around tons of people and kids.

When we came to get her from the vet she was back to her happy little self. Tail wagging, standing up, just with a cute pink taped up leg. I'm having to keep her calm haha. Idk what happened with a animal control. Tony was handling it while I slept. I haven't heard about the dogs but I imagine they will ne euthanized when caught. I don't care about the expense of the vet. This is why I ALWAYS have a fund of at least a grand set aside just for Luma. Sorry if I scared you guys, it was very scary myself and I still feel sick reliving it.

SO scary! OMG I am so sorry for you guys. It is very scary. We have had a few incidents of having dogs come after Jackson, and my adrenaline kicks in too. One time we were at a friends townhouse and I had Jackson outside on a leash, the neighbor right next door has a small dog too (20lbs -ish) and when they opened the door, she rushed out underneath of them and just came straight after Jackson. He, of course, fights back, but I literally leaped on the ground and I grabbed one dog in one hand, and had Jackson in the other. It doesn't help that Jackson is in my arms still snarling and trying to fight back (he's never started a fight, but he WILL fight back). We also were walking in my dads neighborhood one day and a neighbors obnoxious Lab came running towards us (wasn't friendly tho- aggressively) and he almost bit Jackson but luckily the Puppia harness blocked it and by that time, I had him up in my arms (I lifted him by his harness). I've def learned I am very fast acting when it comes to him and my instinct comes in! lol but it's sooo scary, and my heart is always beating so fast afterward.

I am soooo glad Luma is ok. My heart sank when I read the thread title. Feel better and do some celebrating for Christmas!

Glad you got some sleep and Luma is out of the vet's. Rabies shot!! Now that's scary. I think it is better that you and your bf and Luma go home to rest and get yourselves back together.

Be sure you follow up on that, as the initial treatment is 2 injections, followed by a series, spaced out over several days.
I am sorry you and BF are not going to be able to spend Christmas with his parents...I am sure they are sad too, about having to miss Christmas with their son and you...do they insist you keep Luma crated while she is there? Next year, if they want you to come for Christmas, I would make it clear Luma can not be kept crated the whole time! If they insist, then I would maybe see if I could have one of your family members keep Luma....that would certainly be better for her than the stress of being crated 24 hours a day, and all the people that are always around at Christmas. Or you could even get a motel room and you and bf and Luma could stay at a motel, where you could leave Luma while you are at the parents house, with all the kids and festivities.

Very true, you should put a phone call into your primary NOW so that they can obtain the necessary injections you will need. I'm surprised they gave you the shot without consulting with your primary because there is a time period where they usually wait to see (10 days)if they can locate the animal(s). Whenever a person or child gets bit by a dog here and they can't locate the dog the news stations usually put out a public plea. Unfortunately the injections are very painful, as you must know...Please call your PRIMARY RIGHT NOW because the injections are something they have to work with the redcross to get and are not readily available. It is very important to get ahold of them so that the series of shots you need will be available. Also, it is imperative that the County Health Department in which this happened be contacted and take a report. I'm sure Animal Control will help you with this. What county are you in? What Animal Control Agency is helping you?

This is just awful, I really hope they find these dogs and I am so glad you are both ok.

What to do when

We're in the car on our way home but thought I'd check in here. I have had everything set up at home for a followup with Luma's vet and with my doctor. I just want to put this all behind me and focus on making sure my little girl is happy and gets the care she needs. I will probably not be on YT much until after Christmas but don't want any of y'all to worry about that. Just keep sending positive vibes our way!! We are sooo tired and stressed but in good spirits. I'm not gonna let tjos ruin our Christmas. Tonys mama (who is like my best friend) is going to come up here and take care of us for Christmas. I feel so blessed to have so mnay great people supporting us. I'm just happy Luma can he in her home while she gets better.
