Praying for your little girl. Keep us updated |
Prayer for your baby...hope all is well... |
Praying for sweet little Taycie, and for you too! I hope she's home real soon! |
I just got a call, I spoke with our Doctor and he feels she needs to get stronger for surgery or she won't make it. The diarrhea has stopped and he said she tried to wretch but no vomiting at this time. He said this is good! Her neurological signs are also much better and she is alert we just need to get her strong for surgery are main goal is to get calories in her. He is putting a feeding tube in her today. He said at this time he thinks he strong enough to come home on a feeding tube and as soon as she gets more strength for surgery we will go back. He gave me a timeline of 7-10 days and we will be in surgery. I am nervous to bring my girl home. I will be strong for her, I have never cared for a pet in this situation and I want to make she gets what she needs. I trust this vet and I know he would not be sending her home if she wasn't able to come home. Now we just need to get her stronger for surgery. That is my goal. The plus side is the hospital is 3 minutes away from my house and they are open 24 hours. Anyone have experience with a feeding tube? Advice? I am cleaning my house right now, I don't want to take chances. I can feel your thoughts and prayers and I know Taycie does. Keep them coming.. I am ever indebted to all of you who think of us. |
Poor Taycie..:( she is definitly in my thoughts and prayers.. Feel better soon, sweet pup! |
That does sound scary but no doubt she will be able to be more comfortable and contented at home, even with a feeding tube in. I'm sure dogs do better with them than people do as dogs don't worry about things so I'm sure she will do fine as she gains strength from it. Since even kids manage with them, no doubt for the short term she will have it in, after the first day or so, both of you will adjust. I'm sure sorry she has to go through this - I didn't realize she was so weak. Bless her heart, now she'll be getting some energy and strength back if she can keep the liquid down, which being at home should help. Probably far easier on the tummy not to hear strange big dogs near you growling and barking and lots of upsetting, worrying activities going on with other dogs coming & going, with no mommy nearby to reassure! Being home should be more calming on her I would think & help her hold her food down. Hope these next 10 days or so go by fast & she is able to get her surgery soon. I cannot even imagine how hard this is on both of you. |
Your vet will send home written instructions on using the feeding tube, and may demonstrate it for you before you leave the office. |
Taycie is in our prayers..... |
Just now seeing your post...I am keeping you both in my prayers and thoughts. |

Taycie Update::: My girl is home! She has her tube in and she is home and doing great so far. She is on 5 different Medications and she will need around the clock care through out the night. The good news... She wants to eat!!!! The tube was placed today because they could not get her to eat and she kept refusing food. I brought her home and she was BEGGING for food. Sat her little butt down on my kitchen rug and whined to her hearts content.. So I called the office. The vet on staff made a call to her specialist and he said it was perfectly fine. Just as long as they are small meals. I ran over and got the new RX food she was prescribed and brought it home. I put a 2 tsps in her bowl and she went to town... So, do you think she missed her mom???? This has been the first time in her life where we have been separated at night.. So the goal is keep it down. If she vomits we return to tube feeding. I also wanted to give and update on her diagnosis. We are not 100% sure it is a shunt. Below is what was typed in her discharge papers: We are treating Taycie presumptively for IBD with secondary bacterial overgrowth or entertitis. She may also have liver disease. Either a shunt or MVD. Once she is more stable she will need a surgical exploratory. Goals of surgery will be to obtain GI and Liver Biopsies and to place a constrictor if indicated. Taycie is a neat dog and was a very cooperative patient. She is still having diaherra and we expect that to start to resolve soon. Sooo this is what I know. I feel awful for letting Taycie being dragged around by my general vet. I really learned a hard lesson.. and I feel so bad I did this to Taycie. I was told a week ago she had MVD but was never given clear instruction on how to help her with this. Once I saw the specialist he said because her tests have been so unclear Biopsy/ Shunt surgery is our best option.. Many signs point to liver disease. Her neurological signs, pacing, salivating, rubbing her head, staring at nothing... Her Bile Acids post meal were 109, elevated liver enzymes. This will also help us get a clear answer for her stomach.. Because I know it looks awful:( I was also told that once we get in there I will know the EXACT form of IBD/ Liver Disease and we will know the exact medication to give. Again, Thank you all to are thinking and praying for us! This means so much to me! |
So glad she is eating and bet that made you feel so much better. Just being home is a blessing! I will continue to keep you both in my thoughts and prayers and cyber hugs to you both. |
This is sounding encouraging. Now she is home and on medications, she should start to stabilize enough to be able to tolerate the surgery. I wish there was a way this surgery could be done laproscopically.....did you ask your specialist that will be doing the surgery if that were an option? I doubt a constrictor band could be placed doing it that way, but it never hurts to ask....it would be a lot less traumatic for Taycie and post op recovery time cut in half. Anyway, good news for your baby, getting to come home and so happy she is there she decided to eat again! She missed her momma!!! Bless her little heart...praying hard for continued improvement for her! |
Great news! Taycie continues to eat her small meals and keep them down! No diaherra or vomiting! She is gets so excited when I get the food out and chows right down. Because she hasn't really eaten in over a week I am doing around the clock meals and very small ones. She ate at 3 am along with additional meds and did fabulous! So proud of my girl! |
You are in my thoughts and prayers ; I hope all goes well for your baby. Hugs to you. Susan |
So glad to hear that she is eating again, My thoughts & prayers to you both |
Such great news I hardly could process it! That girl really needed to be home in her settled little nest with Mommy so feel better! Says so much about the importance of home. And she's eating - keeping it down! What a good little patient she is being and is doing her part to try to get better ASAP. Glad your surgeon is keeping an open mind about what specifically is going on and hopefully this surgery will bring all the answers, treatment and longterm healing can start. Thank the Lord for answered prayers. Get well, Taycie Girl! |
So glad things are looking brighter! Hope you lil one gets stronger every day. Sounds like shes doing good. Probably just delighted to be out of there and home with you! :) |
I hope all is going well with your little one. Will keep you in my prayers. |
I'm so happy to hear Taycie is eating and keeping it down! Will be keeping your dear girl in my prayers. |
