| Dark runny stool I am really freaking out right now. Charlie started pooping very dark runny stool... I noticed a little bit this morning and just seen more on his potty pad. There was one small clump and the rest was watery. I started googling it and now I am scared something is wrong with him. It's 11pm.. no vets are open. Is there anything I should do for now?.. How do I know what could have caused this. He's still eating and is up like him normal self, just the stool that causes concern. He hasn't vomited and seems to feel fine. Please go easy in your responses. Honest opinions without making me freak out into a panic, please. Thanks. P.S. Please ignore my other thread that is identical to this one. I will ask admin to delete the other one. I just am hoping for a quicker reply this way by posting in this section. |

| I would just make sure hes getting water and you can try to give him some canned pumpkin to firm up the stools. I know its frightening when something like this comes up but try to stay focused untill vet. It could just be stomach upset

| Thanks. He is playing, I made him chicken and rice and he scarfed it down. Nothing seems to be bothering him. He hasn't gone poop again since the last time which was a couple hours ago. Not sure if that makes a difference. |

| Tarry black stool is a sign of bleeding in the upper digestive tract. Sometimes dogs can have allergic reactions to certain protein(s) & it can cause inflammation in the intestinal tract...often potatoes can trigger this as well as it is an inflammatory food & some dogs are allergic to it. A simple change in diet can prevent this. Or has he had any chews lately, like bones? Anything that can cause an obstruction/perforation? If he's not vomiting, I wouldn't be too worried, a bland diet should settle his tummy, hope he'll feel better soon! Of course, if the black tarry runny stools continue & he begins to vomit, please take him in asap. Which I'm sure you'll do.

| I agree. Dark as in black is more alarming than dark as in dark brown. Is Charlie current on his Parvo vaccine? Take a deep breath I know it is so scary when we think one is not feeling well. It is good he his playing. Hugs.

| HI. I woke up this morning to a normal looking semi soft poo. I think he's ok. I panicked because he went and it was very dark almost black and very watery and it was really smelly. When I googled it all I found was really scary stuff. I started to kind of freak out over the things I was reading. Usually when you google something you find good and bad. All I found was bad last night and I started thinking the worst. But since he was acting ok and nothing else seemed wrong with him, I decided not to let my self panic and watch him. Glad I did and not go spend hundreds on an emergency vet, because his poo looks fine today. A little soft, but not runny and not dark. Regular color and shaped like poop. lol He probably ate something that his stomach wasn't agreeing with at all and wanted to let him know. Sorry for spazzing a little last night I know you guys know how much we love these guys. I know you guys know a lot about yorkies and heath issues, and I'm sure you can imagine what I had just got done reading after googling "dark runny stool" and I was worried some replies might scare me more. lol All seems ok now though. |

| I'm glad that Charlie seems better today. The pumpkin is canned and it's 100% pure, NOT the filling for pies, just plain. I use what we need until the stools are firmed up, then freeze the rest in little snack sized ziploc bags for later use. It's really nice to know that they're in there if we need them.

| Thank you. I love him to death. I read scary things on google and was totally freaking out. i thought he had internal bleeding or something. He eats anything and everything food or not. I have been painting furniture at my house. (staining wood) and I thought a piece of rag with stain passed me onto the floor and he ate it and was either poisoned or had internal bleeding. Thats what google suggested. I felt so bad if I let that happen. And then he was acting really tired after a while (probably because he was tired and wanted to go to sleep) and I kept waking him up. LOL He was probably like WTH .. let me sleep!! |
