| Well, tomorrow is 2 weeks from the second surgery. From about day 9 on, Columbo hasn't seemed as perky as he did right after surgery. He just wants to hang out in his bed. He should be resting, but with the first leg, there was something different about his demeanor. He was in such a great mood after this surgery as soon as he came home, then about 9 days after surgery, he just seems to be a little more subdued - not quite depressed, but just not as perky. He doesn't seem as anxious to use the leg as he was. He goes back to the surgeon on Friday. I can't wait because now I'm paranoid that maybe he overdid it and somehow reinjured it. He hasn't done anything but small walks, though, so maybe it just is sore. The vet said he would experience some setbacks, but he never did with the first leg, only consistent progress. If everything is ok on Friday, then he can start hydrotherapy, which I think might make a difference. |

| Wanted to give another update. Went to the Dr on Friday for the scheduled check up. The first week after surgery, Columbo did great and wanted to be up and about. The second week, he started limping more and didn't want to do anything. The Dr said he overdid it, so he has to go back again in 3 weeks before he will clear him for hydrotherapy. He wants him to take it easy until then. We are allowed 5 minutes walks for now. I guess this is one of those setbacks he said we could have. I am grateful that he didn't do any serious damage, though, because the last thing I want is another surgery. I guess I also needed a reminder to have him take it easy. He is still limping and favoring the leg, but I do see slow improvement as time goes by. We see the doctor again in mid-October. |
