| ![]() So sorry to hear Sazzy is having issues with the kennel cough. Buster had it bad when he was a puppy and we went through multiple antibiotics as well. When he would get the coughing fits I would go into the bathroom and turn the shower on and let the steam build up and then bring him in for a bit, it seemed to help ease the coughs. The oral antibiotics did not seem to do the trick though and Buster was verging on pneumonia he ended up staying overnight at a vet hospital for 3 days on IV antibiotics which finally knocked it out. It took about 3 months to get rid of the cough. Is the aspiration pneumonia as a result of the liquid from the tracheal wash? Sending prayers for Sazzy's complete recovery and hugs to kaynka. Best wishes.

| ![]() My first thought was "did the wash cause the pneumonia?", too. I'm praying for your little Saz. Bless his heart! I know you must be exhausted going thru this for so long but you are doing great and I just wanted to tell you that. Kudos to YOU, Mom! ![]()

| ![]() Hi everyone, I wanted to follow up and let you all know that Sazzy has recovered completely from his coughing. The tracheal wash came back with an odd type of bordatella. Sazzy had to be on a combination of Clavamox and Baytril for 8 weeks. He had treatment for his aspiration pneumonia also and that was rather intensive treatement for two weeks. His cough is completely gone. I dont think we could have gotten to diagnosis without the tracheal wash. He has even more energy (who knew!) and he is himself. This was expensive (+$2K) but worth it. Thanks everyone for your prayers and kind thoughts. Love, -Karen |

| ![]() I am soooooo happy to hear about Sazzy and his recovery.....he REALLY had me concerned as he deteriorated into aspiration pneumonia.....Persistance, intensive treatment and knowledgable medical staff pulled him through! Now....I have fought kennel cough following that nasal vaccine for kennel cough, in several dogs....and it was as bad as what you went thru with Sazzy in two of my babies....I HATE that vaccine, especially the nasal administration. I do NOT give that vaccine to my dogs, but then they are not taken around any other dogs. If I thought I had to administer that particular vaccine, it would NOT be the nasal dosing....it would be by shot. That is based on my OWN experience with that nasty vaccine....and frankly, I was concerned when I read your vet went ahead and gave the vaccine for kennel cough with Sazzy already symptomatic withUpper respiratory infection.....I cant help but wonder if that compounded his problems....At least he is completely well NOW and that is a wonderful thing for both Sazzy and his family!!! |

| ![]() Yay for Sazzy! It's interesting that he had a string of virus that was rare...the bordetella shot only protects against 2 of the possible 8 causes, according to Dr. Jean Dodds.

and it is only good for 6 months at a time...two more reasons I do not like this vaccine....too bad if you take your dog to groomers, or to boarders, you have to have this..... | |
