You can also take the Royal Canin kibble and put it in a grinder and grind it up, not as fne as a powder, but into course consistancy like short grain rice...or kernals of corn.....They get more bang for their buck if they can get smaller pieces at a time....I use a coffee grinder to pulverize the kibble ito tiny little pieces....tiny little babies get tired out trying to chew up evenlittle kibble....if you are softening it in water, you wont need to do this...but later, when he gets older, you can always pulverize the kibble for him to manage easier....I am so happy he is doing well for you now...just remember, diarrhea and vomiting for over 24 hours maximum....to the vet ASAP, without delay, as these little ones can go down and die very quickly. Any lethargy, or "drukenness behavior", staggering, even cold ears...all indicitive of low blood sugar...give the NutraCal immediately. | |

| Another Update I gave him his second dose of antibiotics this morning, they gave him a load dose at the vet yesterday. He is definately feeling better and back to his playful self I had been mixing his kibble with water but last night I got a few and was feeding him one at a time to see if he would take them and he did! So today all his feedings were dry and he gobbled them right up. His poop was solid this morning and afternoon, however this evening it has gotten a little runny again.... How long before that will taper off? I am making sure he has clean and dry bedding, keeping his dishes and crate clean, is there anything else specific I need to do so that he doesn't get it again?

| Glad to hear your pups is doing better. At least the lesson learn is...reputable breeders don't let pups go before 12 weeks... To bad there isn't way to give them a bad review??? Webpage or buyers ad?? |

Parvo is passed by contact with fecal matter, so you want to clean any areas he pottied. Often the mommy dog has it, but has no symptoms, and babies get it when nursing (or so I've heard). It should resolve with a full course of the meds, and I can't remember exactly, but seems like it was a week of liquid Albon for my Meika. I also had to treat my other pup Tiki who was 3 months older, just as a precaution. Glad he's eating better. Always remember that your prompt action in getting him into the vet could have made the difference in saving his life. Since you say you have little experience with dogs this young and this small, this is crucial. The lesson here is always be safe rather than sorry. Enjoy your little one.

| Kuma So glad he is responding to treatment and eating better. It may take some time for him to get his tum completely better, and the antibiotics may also make for softer stools. You are doing all the right things and he will be fine in no time. By the way I thought he had Coccidia NOT Parvo? Hope he does have the lesser of two evils, but wish he had neither poor little baby. Get well soon Kuma so you and mommy can have fun. |

He did not have Parvo, that was the first thing they tested him for. He has coccidia. I've read what I can online about it, I just want to make sure I'm doing what I can so that he doesn't get it again. It looks like he definately had it when I got him and would have had it regardless what age I brought him home I'm just so paranoid that we won't get rid of it or he will get it again. I'm going through puppy pads like crazy since everytime he poops the whole pad goes in the trash and I've been wiping down his kennel, washing his bedding and bowls and toys...I just feel so bad that he still has the runs, especially after it seemed to be getting better this morning :-/

| Question What other steps should I be following to disinfect to make sure the coccidia germs aren't left anywhere? So far I am cleaning out his crate several times a day, washing his dishes and toys and bedding, as soon as a he poops on a puppy pad I put them in the trash. Does Lysol work against this? At this point because he is so small and has only had one set of shots we do not take him in the yard to potty. I take him out to our back screened concrete porch and he goes on the potty pad really good but geesh are we going through those things! What is the best way to keep the concrete disinfected?

| This site has a lot of information about coccidia. They say to clean concrete with 10% amonia solution. dottiesyrky, I mistakenly referred to parvo in my previous post, but it is in fact coccidia. Thank goodness, this is much less harmful. Get Well soon little Kuma
