I'm so sorry Prissy has a broken leg. Betty Boop did the same thing with me the other day! Luckily, she wasn't hurt. How long will she be in the splint? Sending prayers your way for a quick recovery. I'm sure she is enjoying being able to sleep with you. |
Poor baby! I'm so sorry she got hurt. Prayers for a speedy recovery. You are such a good mommy. Did she go potty on her own yet? |
Yes, she has been twice..she is just having to figure it out since it is so awkward...She will have her first check with the splint on tuesday and the vet will tell me more then..I dont think I slept more than 3 hrs total last night for being up watching her..I fed her again this morning around 6..She still has a very good appetite..I just gave her pain meds..Im hoping she has a good day today..Please keep her in your prayers over the next few days as she begins to heal..Thank you everyone for your kind responses.. |
I know it's difficult, but it will get a bit easier over time. As long as she is eating well, she is ok. That's the important thing. They learn to maneuver in their splints and the pain will lessen as she heals. I hope you are able to get more sleep soon.:) |
Oh no. My prayers are with Prissy and you. It sounds like the vet thinks her leg will heal OK. I am sure she is very uncomfortable right now and scared. Just give her love and help her potty any way you can. Do you have insurance on her? I got it on Zachary after I joined YT because of all the problems I read about. He is the only one of my 6 that has insurance. I really couldn't afford it on all of them...am lucky I can afford it on one. At least I have peace of mind for him. My prayers and love, Louise :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
I had priced insurance on her last week, but had not made a decision on which one to go with...I know I'll definantly get it now, but it wont help with the leg issue. She was manuvering better just now when I took her out..She gets tired quick..I brought her in and fed her again and she drank water, so she is resting again in her doggy bedin the middle of my bed with me.. :) |
I'm so sorry to read this and hope that your baby will do as well as a little poodle I had many years back did. She learned to deal with her cast & before long was getting about like a trooper - wouldn't believe it would be possible how they can adapt. Watch the areas where the cast ends for evidence of blisters or wearing on her skin and take her in if you see the cast is doing that. Also watch the cast for evidence it has gotten wet or really dirty - should the wetness get inside, not only can it weaken a cast it can macerate the skin so check it frequently. Smell the cast often - bad smell - vet her ASAP. Watch that foot for evidence of swelling or darkening or her chewing it - vet ASAP if that happens so obviously don't leave her unattended for very long when casted! She may itch on her casted leg and act funny when that happens as she can't do anything about it so distraction with food or taking her outside helps during those times. I'm so sorry this happened but thankfully you were right at the vet ASAP. Keep her comfortable and just be there for her as she copes with her "new world" but she will likely figure everything out pretty quickly. |

Splint or cast, watch for those same things such as skin wear, smell, color, temperature changes of the foot. Anything that is strapped in place can cause similar problems on a limb. |
I was checking her feet, they told me to watch for swelling etc...foot is warm and looks the same as when I picked her up yesterday.. |

I went with Trupanion. I signed Zachary up when he wasn't even 5 months old and it is $34 something a month. I have a $0 deductible per occurance and they pay 90% Does not cover office visit, neutering, vaccinations but covers pretty much everthing else, even partial payment for special diet food from the vet for a period of time. And of course, no policy covers prexesting conditions. I think the younger they are when you sign up the cheaper the premium is. So I recommend anyone who wants to sign up does it as soon as you can. Keep us utd on how things go. Love and hugs, Louise |

Priss is having a good afternoon..She wanted in her playpen to rest, so she was in there for a while, then she went out potty.. (I put a baby sock over the end of her splint to protect her toes and keep the splint clean and away from her chewing) She is really alert this afternoon, she just gets frusterated since she cant be as active as she wants, but she is really doing well just resting...I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support..It really means alot!! |
