Prissy had a fall...encouragement please... I was taking Prissy out to potty and when I was putting her down on the grass, she jumped out of my arms. She cried when she fell, I picked her up and started feeling her limbs, she cried when I touched her back leg. I went straight to the vet where they xrayed her. It was broken. They called a specialist and sent her xrays over and discussed treatment and both concurred to set and splint. She has her first recheck on Tuesday. She has meds for pain, and wanted to eat when we got home..Ive seen some really bad stories with breaks. Any good sucesses?? |

I'm so sorry Prissy got hurt:( Give her hugs from me & Zhoie xxooxox. You rushed right to the vet and was so proactive with her care...she is a lucky little girl to have such a good mommy. I read lots of successful stories with broken legs too...I'm sure she will be fine. Sending prayers for miss Prissy! |
She is sleeping now, but Im not sure how her going potty is going to work. I stood her on a potty pad and she moved around just a little, but she just wanted me to hold her. Any suggestions? |

Maybe she feels insecure with the cast on her leg. Can you just hold her a little to steady her while she goes potty. Maybe her leg is still painful . After she starts feeling better she may just go on her own. She is lucky to have such a wonderful mommy.... |

Poor little Prissy. :(. Their little bones are so fragile. I am sure she is scared and confused on what all has happened. I am sure she wants you for security. |
Oh no I'm so sorry that Prissy broke her leg. Prayers for a fast healing. |
I found that when my girls were on pain medications, particularly buphorprenol, they were especially needy. I hope Prissy heals and is free from pain very quickly. |
She went out just a little bit ago...she is being such a trooper...I of course feel horrid that she is hurt...Im just hoping that the splinting is successful and she begins to heal quickly... |
I'm so sorry your little one got hurt. She'll do better than you think she will. Yorkies are little troopers. It will get easier. I hope she heals quickly.:) |
Awwww so sad keeping Prissy and you in my prayer's. Hope she start's to feel better soon. It doesn't take much to break a bone on these little one's. Right now she just want's your loving arms ans security. Loves and hug's to your Prissy. Anne/Luci.:animal-pa |
ohhhhh poor little Prissy, I hope she heals fast. prayer sent your way |
I put her bed in the bed with me tonight so I can be closer to her...She woke up a little bit ago and wanted to go out..So here we are piled up in the bed at 430am..Everytime she moves, Im awake making sure she is comfortable |
I'm so sorry Prissy has a broken leg. Betty Boop did the same thing with me the other day! Luckily, she wasn't hurt. How long will she be in the splint? Sending prayers your way for a quick recovery. I'm sure she is enjoying being able to sleep with you. |
Poor baby! I'm so sorry she got hurt. Prayers for a speedy recovery. You are such a good mommy. Did she go potty on her own yet? |
Yes, she has been twice..she is just having to figure it out since it is so awkward...She will have her first check with the splint on tuesday and the vet will tell me more then..I dont think I slept more than 3 hrs total last night for being up watching her..I fed her again this morning around 6..She still has a very good appetite..I just gave her pain meds..Im hoping she has a good day today..Please keep her in your prayers over the next few days as she begins to heal..Thank you everyone for your kind responses.. |
I know it's difficult, but it will get a bit easier over time. As long as she is eating well, she is ok. That's the important thing. They learn to maneuver in their splints and the pain will lessen as she heals. I hope you are able to get more sleep soon.:) |
Oh no. My prayers are with Prissy and you. It sounds like the vet thinks her leg will heal OK. I am sure she is very uncomfortable right now and scared. Just give her love and help her potty any way you can. Do you have insurance on her? I got it on Zachary after I joined YT because of all the problems I read about. He is the only one of my 6 that has insurance. I really couldn't afford it on all of them...am lucky I can afford it on one. At least I have peace of mind for him. My prayers and love, Louise :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
I had priced insurance on her last week, but had not made a decision on which one to go with...I know I'll definantly get it now, but it wont help with the leg issue. She was manuvering better just now when I took her out..She gets tired quick..I brought her in and fed her again and she drank water, so she is resting again in her doggy bedin the middle of my bed with me.. :) |
I'm so sorry to read this and hope that your baby will do as well as a little poodle I had many years back did. She learned to deal with her cast & before long was getting about like a trooper - wouldn't believe it would be possible how they can adapt. Watch the areas where the cast ends for evidence of blisters or wearing on her skin and take her in if you see the cast is doing that. Also watch the cast for evidence it has gotten wet or really dirty - should the wetness get inside, not only can it weaken a cast it can macerate the skin so check it frequently. Smell the cast often - bad smell - vet her ASAP. Watch that foot for evidence of swelling or darkening or her chewing it - vet ASAP if that happens so obviously don't leave her unattended for very long when casted! She may itch on her casted leg and act funny when that happens as she can't do anything about it so distraction with food or taking her outside helps during those times. I'm so sorry this happened but thankfully you were right at the vet ASAP. Keep her comfortable and just be there for her as she copes with her "new world" but she will likely figure everything out pretty quickly. |

Splint or cast, watch for those same things such as skin wear, smell, color, temperature changes of the foot. Anything that is strapped in place can cause similar problems on a limb. |
I was checking her feet, they told me to watch for swelling etc...foot is warm and looks the same as when I picked her up yesterday.. |

I went with Trupanion. I signed Zachary up when he wasn't even 5 months old and it is $34 something a month. I have a $0 deductible per occurance and they pay 90% Does not cover office visit, neutering, vaccinations but covers pretty much everthing else, even partial payment for special diet food from the vet for a period of time. And of course, no policy covers prexesting conditions. I think the younger they are when you sign up the cheaper the premium is. So I recommend anyone who wants to sign up does it as soon as you can. Keep us utd on how things go. Love and hugs, Louise |

Priss is having a good afternoon..She wanted in her playpen to rest, so she was in there for a while, then she went out potty.. (I put a baby sock over the end of her splint to protect her toes and keep the splint clean and away from her chewing) She is really alert this afternoon, she just gets frusterated since she cant be as active as she wants, but she is really doing well just resting...I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support..It really means alot!! |
