I can't imagine what could have caused him to throw it up. If he's acting ok right now, I wouldn't worry too much. If it happens again today, I would be worrying. Sending you and Tibbe my very best wishes. |

Poor Tibbe! I wonder if since one of the side effects of the Pepcid is loss of appetite, if that would mean that he's a bit nauseous? I don't know, but sure wish that his poor tummy would just knock it off, already! Poor baby:( And poor Mom, too, you must be so frustrated and worried. I hope the vet can figure out something to get his belly straightened out. Maybe he needs some probiotics? Sending more get well wishes to your handsome little one:love: |
Tibbe has spent a quiet day just laying around, doing little. He's had his dose of Pepcid & I also gave him his nausea medication. He keeps refusing his kibble - tried the old Iams, the Science Diet & his Royal Canin - turns his nose, but tried to gulp down a piece of cold pizza I offered him just to see if he'd be interested. Offered him some Oroweat bread - tried to get it, too. Kibble - turns his head. Finally soaked some Royal Canin & he ate about half of the 1/4 cup of kibble. He's toileted completely normally & is alert when you call him but just lying there the rest of the time. His tummy feels firm to me, not soft. Decide to wait until tomorrow to take him back in to try to see if there is anything more I can put my finger on. No more spitting up, vomiting, though I think I did see him refluxing but didn't catch the whole thing. Took his temp - it is 101.2 degrees - just about where it always is. I'm wondering if the Pepcid just hasn't had time to really heal his irritated esophagus, if that is part of what was wrong. We'll see what the night & tomorrow bring. Just can't help but worry something else might be going on. This dog is normally a perpetual motion machine. |
I hope he has a good day tomorrow. I suppose it's possible his throat is irritated and perhaps it is uncomfortable for him to swallow the kibble??? I don't know. Hoping to hear a good report on Tibbe tomorrow. |
Just some thoughts. On 5/27 he was 95% better. Right after that you weaned the pred. Are you sure he didn't go downhill right after that? Is he still on tramadol? It doesn't soud like there is a good reason for inappetance right now. My concern would be that this started weeks ago...with a pain near his front legs/neck...and he seems to want to lay aroud, he is restless, not wanting to eat, etc.. Could be stomach, but looking at where this started, I have to wonder if he is ouchy. ellie gets sorta like that when she flares, except she will always eat. And the first vet that saw her had palpated her back and got no pain response. My vetthen did it and found the problem right away. Some are very gentle... If you are headed back tomorrow, I'd make sure they palpate again. Thinking about Tibbe often. This has got to be so hard to watch.:( |

Also, is Tibbe on any probiotics? Probiotics/digestive enzymes is the best thing any Yorkie owner can do for their pups with tummy issues, especially during times of stress or when on medication. Also have concerns about possible aspiration with his vomiting... could also be a cause for his lethargy... Tibbe has been and will be in my thoughts and prayers... |
Checking in for updates on Tibbe. |
He refused his food today until about noon, when he ate some of his Royal Canin G-I soaked in water. I used 3 tablespoons of kibble, added 1/4 cup water & he ate about 1/3 of that. Vet instructions are to give him his nausea medication if he refuses food so I did give that this morning, 2 hours before he ate some. I left his food down when I went to PT & got the car inspected, came back & he hadn't touched it, but almost immediately ate most of what was left in the bowl while I was showering & changing clothes. Thank the Lord! That's still not much actual food but at least he ate most of the 3 tablespoons of kibble. Will try an evening meal later tonight. Each time he's checked out by the vet they palpate, check ROM of his neck, back, (as well as all major joints) since IVDD has been a differential dx. since his 5-23-12 date of onset sx. & he never reacts. Neuro's always normal throughout. His tummy feels full, firm a good deal of the time to me, even when it's not, though it can get quite soft & slack at times. Vet thinks that his tummy adjusting to all the changes in his food & neither vet is that impressed by it when they see him. No reverse sneezing since he started on the Pepcid, which I've yet to give him today - waiting until tonight so he won't have both the nausea meds & Pepcid going in about the same time - maybe conspiring to make him extra sleepy. One of the side effects of Pepcid, though in only about 10% of cases, is loss of appetite & lethargy/tiredness. Hoping that is what is going on here. Vet said just keep observing him, doing what I'm doing & if no changes, we'll leave off Pepcid a while to see if he won't spring back before doing more in depth testing. His toileting still totally normal & no more vomiting, though this morning he did straighten out his neck, head down & licking his lips a few times, acted once or twice as if he was about to retch but didn't. His ears were low to the side, tail down. Even though he's no longer acting like that, he's been asleep since about an hour after I got back home. He's sure not his usual Tibbe self that toots around the house like a tornado until weekend before last - that is when he seemed to turn some corner for the worse after eating all that food & started all the tummy stuff, reverse sneezing & the minimal burp/belch bouts started in earnest, just about the time I began weaning him off Prednisolone after he had a good blood level of it. |
I hope he does better tomorrow. I just don't understand why he's not eating, unless the Pred gave him an ulcer. Sending hugs to Tibbe!:) |

I wonder if it could be the anti-nausea med as well? I just don't know. |

Hope Tibbe is back to normal soon. It's frustrating when our babies are sick or hurting since they can't tell us with words what's wrong. |
Thinking of you and Tibbe today, hoping he is better soon |
