Cathy,

He looks fantastic, you are such good parents to the Barney man. When do you go back to the vet? I am out of school a week from thursday we could do lunch again if you like? I have to meet Barney in person! I am happy he is progressing well, looks like he is not minding therapy at all.

Poor little baby! He sure has been through it! But he is looking good and going to continue to improve. You have been a good momma through all this Cathy!

Water or not, I can't believe he is 12yrs of age! He has mucho puppy gusto! Literally brouht tears to my eyes!

When Miss Mini had her Legges Perthes (sp) surgery her little leg was so tiny I started just telling people that "yes it will always be skinnier than the other cuz of muscle loss" blah, blah, blah, I couldn't imagine that it would one day get back to normal...but it did.

I'm so glad hes doing so well, he looks wonderful! Its because he has a loving family, you are an awesome Yorkie Mom!

Wow, I had no idea little Barney was 12! He was going to town on that treadmill!

I hope that he gets back to baseline soon.

Yes I could tell. I am a movement kind of gal. And I've done treadmill work with my pups. Don't worry about the 50% unless they excised muscle tissue. Give that treadmill some time. Magic lost about 25-40% loss over his buttock muscles from DLSS and our physio and treadmill water work recouped a good 90% of his loss.

Cathy, he looks wonderful, I can't believe he is 12 either. Little guy has been through so much, but he is working his little butt off to be back as good as new, makes me get all teary. He such a little fighter.

You two are amazing, wonderful parents to your babies! My prayers are with Barney and his full recovery.

And just read the other threads 21 weeks is okay. We did eight months, and then more annually on that treadmill. They really grow to like it.

YorkieMom1 had good advice on axcillary exercise you can do. I recommend placing a ladder flat on the ground and have Bailey walking through it. Sit Beg Stand is so great too Start him against a corner of a wall, so it can support his back, and also on a non slip surface. Try to get him to crawl for his treats.

Also downhill work; start gently with a wide swooping arc so that the decline is gradual.

While I have heard so many of my customers getting this kind of therapy, I've never actually seen a dog on a water treadmill before. I'm incredibly impressed with how well Barney is doing and which him much success!

And so you should be proud of him. My goodness I had no idea whatsoever how old he is!.

I truly hope so too that surgeries are all over with now.
