You will be surprised how many distance a little pup can travel! I found a Chi that seemed lost, but was wearing a tag. It was a very hot day & she was heading toward a major street w/lots of cars. I calmy got her & I called the # on her tag. Her owner didn't have a car, so he asked if I can drop her off. She lived almost 2 miles away!
Maybe you can post flyers around the neighborhood, in grocery stores, vet hospitals, pet stores...
Yes, they do travel! I know of one in our area that ended up 45 miles away!

I know that you and your mother in law must be very kind hearted, and that you are trying to do the right thing for this little one. The problem is that these little yorkies, unfortunately, have health problems and unless you are familiar with this particular dog, you may not know until it is too late. This little girl may look like a stray, but they can start looking like that very quickly when the truth is, she may have just been lost for a few hours or just a day or so. She may need her meds (mine are both on daily meds) - and a "possible" vet visit may not be enough if she is sick. I'm not trying to be harsh, but if this were my little one that had gotten out, I would hope that whoever had found her would be doing everything they could to help her stay healthy and find her way back home. That is the kindest thing you can do for this baby....Bless you for taking her in and trying to find her family!

yikes 45 miles?!:eek: Wonder if someone took her in & she got out again trying to get back home...

To the OP, ladyjane is w/a Yorkie Rescue (Yorkie Haven Rescue). There's help if you need it!

PLEASE, have the vet check her for micro-chip....if she is chipped, that is how you will get her back to her heartbroken family.....

Just because she was found in that neighborhood doesn't not mean she is from that neighborhood she could live 30 or more minutes from them and what if a child somewhere is missing there dog? Crying every night asking mommy and daddy where her dog is? I would never not look for a dogs owner because I would never want someone to keep Callie if she got lost and never try to find me. Small dogs go down hill very fast she needs to get to the vet asap. If you cannot afford it you need to find a no kill shelter or a yorkie rescue and giver her to them. It is not fair to let a dog suffer if she is sick.

I'm glad you are taking care of her for now, but...

Please do everything you can to try to find this Yorkie's owner. The very first thing you should do is take her to a vet. They can check for a microchip and address any other medical concerns. There are lots of other things you can do to look for her owner: post "found dog" signs up with your contact number (no picture), place ads with the same on Craig's list and newspapers.

well, it was possible to take her to the vet. she was not chipped. unfortunately, she did not make it. they did what they could, but it wasn't good enough. I did what i could. If we hadn't of taken her in, there would not have been any chance of survival. everything happens for a reason. she was a sweet little pup.

not sure. vet didn't say. he gave her a shot of anti-biotics, and a shot for diarrhea, and he had an IV on her.

White stools can be a sign of liver disease. She might even be on a special diet. I would be trying to find the owner unless you have a lot of money to pay on vet bills. Also the aversion to food can also be a sign of liver disease. Liver diseases are very common in yorkies. Someone out there must be missing their baby... please help her get home.... you could have the vet scan for a microchip too....
