| Urinalysis, imp info needed please Why is it when it is our pups we can't think straight? Anyways, took Urine sample to vet yesterday...strangely they didn't call me for 24 hours...usually they call muuuuuch quicker...finally called and told me that Miss Mini did have an infection and to come pick up some Zenequin. So I went and picked it up I then asked my friend (the secretary) what is wrong? Dr was in surgery with an emergency case so the secretary looked in the chart and said yeah she has a UTI her urine had proteins, coccidia cells....there was alot of commotion and I left. Of course my brain started spiraling on the way home. Miss Mini has never been healthy, though you wouldn't know it. She is a store bought, Hunte Corp, puppy mill......anyways.... She seems to get these infections a few times a year or more. My question is what is a urine analysis consist of and what are they testing for specifically? what does coccidia cells (or did I hear wrong?) and proteins mean? I feel so bad for Miss Mini, shes uncomfortable and her chichi hurts when she pees... I need advice on this please...Thanks in advance p.s. Zenequin 2ce daily for 21 days.

| Specific gravity pH Bacteria (one type is cocci) Protein Blood Crystals Etc. UTIs are very common. Several a year probably means there is something else going on. Does your vet ever send the urine for culture? How is her liver and kidney bloodwork? Ever done diagnostic imaging? Zeniquin is a good AB. Without culturing though, it's impossible to say what AB will be the most effective.

| They check for everything... Urinalysis in Dogs - Page 1 A urinalysis helps to evaluate the function of the kidneys and the quality of the urine produced. A urinalysis usually consists of three parts; examining the physical sample, a dipstick analysis to evaluate the presence of certain substances and microscopic examination of the sediment. A urinalysis can evaluate for pyuria (white blood cells in the urine), hematuria (blood in the urine), crystalluria (crystals in the urine), the presence of abnormal amounts of glucose, ketones and protein, and urine concentration. With recurring UTIs you may want to ask your vet about running a Bile Acid Test, to test liver function, and specific bloodwork to check her kidney function.

| Thanks Ellie and KJC you helped me very much, I just have a hard time finding things when it pertains to my pups! Miss Mini is still not feeling well and had a bit of a temp today. I have been giving her antibiotics right on schedule and am hoping that tomorrow will see her feeling better. She never acts sick, it is so strange....but thanks for your input I have an app't for Friday with the vet to go over the info you provided and to demand more tests, this is going on tooooo long now.
