| Charlie is having surgery tomorrow Just curious if anyone has dealt with this issue...? I first noticed a growth on Charlie's foot, in between his toes(Charlie is 17 months old) last Thanksgiving. I took him to the emergency vet, because my vet was closed for the holiday. The emergency vet hospital sent us home with pain meds and x-rays that showed nothing of concern and suggested I follow up on Monday with my vet for a biopsy. Long story short, my vet was perplexed and started Charlie on antibiotics, antibiotic foot baths and more pain meds. The growth went down in size, after a few weeks and Charlie stopped favoring it which made me think it wasn't hurting him anymore...? The vet has seen us every 2-4 weeks since November to monitor his foot. It would start to swell again sometimes and another round of antibiotics would make it shrink again....well, last week our vet said it was concerning to him that it would never go completely away and it was time to do a biopsy to make sure it wasn't cancer. We scheduled surgery for in the morning, he is so tiny they are having to amputate one maybe 2 toes, at a minimum. I am so worried and pray it is just a benign mass and after tomorrow it will be gone forever!! I am worried about how much pain he will be in after the surgery and how recovery will be for him without some of his toes...? And how long before he can walk well again...? Thankfully, I am a stay at home mom so I can be Charlie's full time nurse once I get him home again!! I wish I knew how to post pictures, i would post what his foot looks like, but I dont know how to do that...? I will post again tomorrow, after surgery, with an update. The vet told me it could be around noon before they call me-but I will post as soon as I hear. Please keep Charlie in your prayers tomorrow. Thanks, Janice |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Sending my best. I have no experience with this. I'm surprised to hear some toes have to be amputated for a biopsy, but I imagine it's tricky with something that small. Try to keep your spirits up. You're doing everything you can do.

| they can't do a needle biopsy to see if they can get just a little to see if it is cancer? Then decide what to do once they know if it's a disease or just a growth that can be managed. Poor baby. |

| Thanks!! Thanks for all your prayers!! It is pouring in Houston and we are under tornado and flood warnings this morning. Many power outages too! I just called the vet to see if surgery is still going to happen, given our weather issues and they told me the surgeon had not made it in yet, our roads are a mess. They said they would update me as the morning progresses. I will post as soon as I hear anything! I just want this over and for Charlie to be home with me!! I'm afraid there may be a delay now due to weather. Thank you all for praying for us! Xxoo, Janice |

| Update on Charlie I just heard from the surgeon and Charlie is out of surgery and doing great! I am so relieved! We have to wait a week to get the biopsy results. Looks like they may even let him come home tonight, they will see how he is doing later this afternoon. I can't wait to get him home!! Thanks for your prayers, I will continue to update you on his progress!! Thanks, Janice |

| Yeah glad to hear that Charlie is out of surgery. I hope he is able to come home with you tonight. Prayers going out for him. Side Note: Here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area we had some awful rain last night/this morning. My area got 4 inches. I now have a lake in my back yard. LOL But I am seeing a little bit of sun trying to pop thru.

| Charlie is home I am happy to report that Charlie came home tonight!! The surgery went very well- they were able to remove the mass and not remove his toes. Originally, they thought he was so small to get a biopsy would require removing his toes as well. Now we just have to wait for the biopsy to get back to know what we are really dealing with. He doesn't feel well, or maybe it's just the sedation...? And the cone on his little head....But in any case, he isn't acting like himself. He just wants to sleep. We return in 2 days for a check up. I will sleep better tonight knowing he is home. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers! Xo Janice |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | That's GREAT news! Yeah, my guess is it's the sedation that's making him sleepy. I always feel so bad for them when they're glassy-eyed. But it's better than pain, I suppose. Sending my best in hopes test comes back negative for anything bad.
