UPDATE: Cali had her bath last night and feels great! She is so tiny...lost weight and her skin is lose. I'm worried about her but you would never be able to tell something is wrong with her by looking into her eyes. She runs everytime we bring her outside (in the evenings) and she walks around the house a bit more...even without her socks. I'm so proud of her. |
I'm so glad she is doing so well. Hope she fattens up soon! :D |
UPDATE: So Cali is doing well. She has days of better mobility but overall she can do things herself and that makes me so happy. 2 weeks from today is her followup and I can't wait. Anyway, yesterday I noticed her belly was distended and bloated. She did have a bowel movement but I was concerned b/c it happened overnight. We watched her all day and she acted normal. Today she is still normal but I called my vet b/c I'm concerned of side effects from all her meds. He said to talk with Neurology on our F/U about Grade IV Laser (K Laser) as a replacement for her meds. He also said that she could have iatrogenic Cushings from the Prednisone. My concern was asictes from the Dilantin. Anyway, she is acting normal but I really want to start weaning some of these meds. Her appt can't come quick enough. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about the laser &/or her meds? Here's the link to the laser: Veterinary K-LaserUSA TIA! :animal-pa |
I don't have any experience or knowledge to share, but I want to say that sweet little Cali continues to be in my prayers. |

My Vet uses the Lasar Treatments and has had a lot of success with it. My SIL's Schnauzer is fixing to start this treatment. |

It's so good to hear that lil' Cali is doing so much better. I am keeping her in my prayers!!! We're still waiting to hear how the blood work and everything turns out that she had last Monday. She's still limping, but the front leg doesn't seem to be an issue at all now. It's just the one back leg. Keep us posted on precious Cali!!! |

UPDATE: Cali has been doing well. She has her moments but I've been very proud of her and how she has handled her limitations. We have our follow up a week from today so I'll be posting what happens. Hopefully she will remain the same even when we wean her meds. This is the part that really scares me since she has been on Dilantin/Tramadol/Valium every 8 hours for over a month now...:( |

Keeping Cali in my thoughts and prayers.... |
Have a safe trip. I hope you get good news. Will be waiting for an update. |
UPDATE-S/P 4 week follow up: The Neuro team is thoroughly impressed with Cali's progress. They are still very perplexed by what happened with her and cautiously label her as Immune Mediated Neuromyotonia (nothing new). Anyway, one of her liver enzymes was high, her albumin was low, and she lost 2 oz. They recommend feeding her more, rechecking her labs in 2 weeks with our regular vet, & wean her tramadol and dilantin....which we are actively doing now. They feel her liver will be fine as long as we wean down the dilantin. We go back in 4 weeks and depending on how she is doing, we will wean the prednisone. That means that in 2 months she could be off all meds (except Valium which we could wean then if possible). I'm so happy to be getting her off meds. ALL of my questions were addressed. They approved K-laser, PT/Rehab, Chiropractor and any homeopathic route we want to take. Cali has an appointment next week with PT to see what we can do for her and we will pursue K laser and chiro. Thanks to everyone for sticking around! We are going in the right direction. Cali's progress has plateaued but she is a very happy puppy and I really couldn't ask for more at this point. The support on this website has been phenomenal and I'm thankful for each and every one of you. I pray for each of your babies, even though I don't know them all. God will bless all of you and watch over your families. He has blessed us as we've prayed so much for Cali. MSU was careful to say that the meds may have helped Cali or it could have just been the course of the disease (whatever it is) but I know it was God that helped us all along. He helped us by sending us to MSU and by sending me here to be with all of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you......can't say thanks enough! |

Cali and your family continue to remain in my prayers. |
Glad to hear all is going well.... praying for continued improvement... |
Glad to hear Cali is doing well. I think we chatted privately about Denamarin, a liver supplement. You may want to look into it. |
UPDATE: Cali is not eating and has thrown up a few times. Also, she is being very difficult when taking meds...won't take any treats. She is acting normal but feels so skinny. I can't wait to get her to the PT next week. I hope we get her straight. She's been drinking lots of fluid but I thought she would be eating more due to the prednisolone. She should be gaining weight not losing. Her walking is good although there are times she is really stiff. I keep her loose through her exercies/ROM. Any advice? |
