YT 1000 Club Member | Erythrocytosis...? Has anyone ever had experience with erythrocytosis with any of their pets? I came across an article today and it's a bit frightening. Was also speaking with Romeo's vet who said it's very rare and he's personally never treated the illness. P.S. I've been doing quite a bit of research since I rushed Romeo to the vet last week and the diagnosis was dehydration.

| You don't think Romeo has it, do you? I can tell you from doing research about eye problems when Max was going through his eye thing, too much knowledge can keep you up worrying at night needlessly. I try to maintain a balance of knowing enough to make informed decisions about caring for my boys, but not so much that I am always worrying that each second could be the last of their healthy lives.

| Erythrocytosis in Dogs and Cats, An Overview Relative Erythrocytosis The basis for treating relative erythrocytosis is to address the underlying cause of disease and replace lost fluid volume intravenously.3,4,6 The choice of fluid and rate of administration should be based on biochemical test results and the level of dehydration. Prognosis is generally good once the patient’s hydration status is normalized.6 Relative erythrocytosis due to splenic contraction is transient and should resolve once the patient is calm.3,6

Again, I'm doing my due diligence (I like to plan and prepare) so I know what I'm in for in the event this is Romeo's diagnosis.

I have found in my life that the things I worried the most about never occurred..and it was just wasted energy. When I am in that mode, it is impossible to live in the moment.... very unhealthy for me. I hope that all this was, was a simple dehydration that often happens.

YT 1000 Club Member | Thank you LadyJane! The vet wants to do another urinalysis (first one came back normal) as well as complete blood work next Monday to assure us all that it was (we are praying) just dehydration. In the meantime I won't read another internet article on this condition!!!!
