I have wanted cry all day since you told me about this. I just have no words, but know that my heart is breaking for you. |
Praying for Ellie. |
I am so sorry about little Ellie. Just prayed for her and prayed it is just a sprain maybe like you said from a jump or something. Let us know as soon as you find out. I know you must be a nervious wreck. Just try to have faith that she is going to be okay. |
I suppose it can't be dissolved, either, since it can't be split? |
Praying for Ellie and you. |
Sending healing prayers to Ellie Mae! |

There are three board certified neurologists in Michigan, two of which my vet would be ok with. We have another one who is supposed to be ok, but isn't board certified. Northern Ohio may be doable. At this point, we're just not convinced that we are going to be much farther ahead with a neuro. Might have to do an emergency consult tomorrow though. --------------------- I'd love to be able to dissolve it, but it's a capsule, so I don't think that's allowed. She won't even take water from a dropper right now, so I doubt she would eat/drink it anyway. I'm going to see if her vet has any ideas if the first attempt doesn't go well. |

CAUTION: The commercially available human liquid product contains xylitol which can be toxic to dogs. It is possible to have a special formulation made at a pharmacy that does drug compounding so that it does not contain xylitol. IVDD Drugs and Side Effects |

I am sorry that you and your baby are suffering so. I pray that all turns out well. Stay strong for her she needs you now. Lots of prayers going your way. |
I'll have to see if there is a compounding pharmacy open tomorrow if I can't get this pill down her. Yes, there are ERs where she could be admitted or I can just get her vet out of bed. Could call the neuro in right now, but we aren't doing surgery, so I'm not quite sure if there would be a point to that. She is moving. Doesn't seem to be dehydrated. Doesn't want to stand, but is soooooo drugged up. Exactly how she acted post-spay with this drug. Within a few hours I think we'll know more. We're doing what her vet thinks is a fair option right now and just hoping it turns out ok. |
I am so sorry. My heart is breaking for you. Praying that Ellie will recover quickly. Hugs to you and her. :( |
Just seeing this now... OMGosh... sending prayers and healing thoughts and energy for Ellie, and hugs and prayers for strength for you. I am sorry, but giving oral meds to dogs with neck injuries makes me crazy... wonder if your vet would do an IV port and give you injectable meds? |
Crystal, you don't even know what this is. Personally, I think you need to go to the neuro to at least find out. If your vet likes two of the three, I would be going to one of them to at least get an opinion. A blanket statement saying you are not doing surgery...I am not sure where that is coming from. You don't even have a diagnosis nor do you know if/what surgery would be recommended. Maybe it is something simple? Maybe there is an option? I will keep your baby in my thoughts and prayers and also you. |
Agree with KJC .. not sure how you could possible give a pill to her with her neck in that kind of discomfort. :( Surely there are other options for meds for her. |
Were there any X-rays done? How old is she? Gabapentin can be compounded for Shelby is 4 lbs dont remember dosage, its usually one pharmacy in area that can do it overnite, Ultram tiny pill amt 1/4 tablet of 25 mg given with just a bit of soft canned Science AD, we fed through a syringe that helped. Steroids Prednisone reduce inflammation, and pepcid-nexium to reduce her Hydrocephalus, but also to protect her stomach. Shelby innocently slipped off the couch went into seizure quad paralysis, at ER we had xrays confirm AAI- Atlanto Axial Instability. I dont know your girl just going on some symptoms here, but from the bottom of my heart see a neurologist, we are in upper Ohio, we used Metropolitan Animal Hosp their neuro dept with Dr Todd Axlund you can see his credential, published, teaches, he was our savior. Please let me know if there is any thing else I could help you with? |

Never mind I see by your post back in April/May this is a on going issue with her? Lumbar/sacrum area, and she has been on Tramadol for treatment. I see she is older also? couldnt gage the age, but I believe she would benefit from a consult with a neurologist. |
Praying for good news tomorrow. |
Crystal, I am so sorry! Prayers for you and your sweet girl. My heart breaks for you. |
Sending prayers for your Ellie. |
Poor baby !! I hope they can figure out what is going on and she is on the mend soon. |
Prayers for you both and I am so very sorry. |
Crystal, I hope you are able to find some answers as to the exact cause of her pain. I feel so bad that she is not able to find relief from her pain as well. I'll be sure to check back to see how things are going. |
Just checking in this morning. I'm sure you didn't get much rest last night. Hoping both of you are ok. |
Hoping today is a brighter one for Ellie and Crystal. |
Positive Update for Ellie May Crystal told me that Ellie May is improved this morning. She even guarded her food from Ry. I'm sure Crystal will be by later to update in more detail. |
