Poor Cody was staying with friends last week while we were on vacation. I am sure our friends didn't do anything or have any lapse in his care. BUt unfortunately, he came back to us all snotty and snuffling. I felt so bad for the little guy... we picked him up yesterday morning and he was just so tired. I was cuddling him on the couch and he took a three hour nap on my chest. The only time he woke up was to snuffle and snort, and then stretch before conking back out.

I know he needs to go to the vet and we have an appointment this afternoon. I just feel so bad for the little dude and I wish there was more I could do. We put a cool mist humidifier next to his crate last night but he woke up snuffling and snorting worse than ever.

I guess I'm just looking for a little support and hoping this will be nothing but a little cold that he'll get through quickly. Can anyone share their doggy cold stories? I've never been through this with a dog before and of course, little Cody is my baby so I feel just terrible about it. Any advice or stories to share?

I'll update after our vet appointment to let you all know what she says about my little man.

Can you take his temperature? If it is high, take him to the vet now and tell them it's an emergency. They should be willing to see him before his appt time. My dog had pneumonia and almost died 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, I can't.I'm at work now and need to get some time in so I can leave to get him to the vet this afternoon. He wasn't overly lethargic though so I'm guessing he's not running a super high fever. He is sleeping more than normal, but he is also eating, drinking, playing, and pottying normally.

Those are good signs.... I was worried for a bit there, lol! Hope he does well at the vets... Allergens can cause large amounts of mucous also, like shampoos, air fresheners, detergents and such.... Hoping it's just a cold...

Could be some kind of reaction to something at your friends house. Good you are going to the vet just to be sure. Is the snot clear or colored?

His snot seems to be clear from what I can tell. He tends to lick it all off of his nose so fast after he sneezes, but it looks like what is coming out is clear and watery.

The problem is dogs cant blow their noses like humans and get rid of it. You dont want any of that fluid to get into the lungs or youll have a dog with pnemonia

Clear is most likely allergies according to my vet, but better safe than sorry. What time is you appointment? Paris has snot bubbles sometimes.

Our vet appointment was at 4 PM and she said Cody just has a virus. He wasn't running a fever and his lungs are fine. He's on an antibiotic to avoid any secondary infections and she said it should run its course in 5 to 7 days. So, it sucks, but it's nothing serious. I'm glad I took him in and I think we got there in plenty of time.

Thanks for thinking of my little man! Now pardon me while I go snuggle my snorting little snot ball.

Glad to hear all went well! If the snot changes color and/or becomes cloudy, get him right back in there!

Now, certainly go snuggle, lol!
