Doggie cold? Last Friday morning my little one wouldn't eat anything and had very soft stool (the vet says "like pudding"). I took her to get checked out because she is prone to tummy issues but the vet couldn't find anything really wrong so they just gave her a shot of Pepcid and told me to do a bland diet for a few days. The suggested maybe she just wasn't feeling well and not eating was her way of showing it. Since then her stool has still been softer than usual and she is still weird about eating, sometimes she eats great and like normal and then other times she acts like she doesn't want to eat at all. Also, her nose seems to be wetter than usual and her eyes have been weepy, and not just in the inside corner but all along the bottom. So is it possible she just has a cold? She's not coughing or sneezing and hasn't had a fever that I can tell. She was at the groomer about a week before this started, but she is up to date on bordatella and all that. But I didn't know if dogs could even get colds. I'm a first time puppy mommy here so I am at a loss! And no, I haven't changed food or treats or anything lately. Her tummy is way too sensitive so once we find something that works we stick to it.

I couldn't figure out how to edit my original post, but I wanted to add that she has also had horrible gas since this whole thing started too. It's not frequent, but when she is passing gas the smell is just awful. She has had gas before, but very infrequently. But since last Friday she's had it everyday. She's on Wellness whitefish canned food and Wellness small breed dry-she has been on this combination for a few months now. She was previously on Blue but switched due to so many tummy issues before.

If this were my baby,I would go back to the vet and ask for blood work. Im sorry that your baby has been feeling bad. It sounds like more than just a sensitive tummy. Doggies can get viruses that arent covered by immunization shots. We had an upper respiratory infection here a couple of months ago and we were able to keep it to just one dog.

I was thinking I would call the vet tomorrow when they re-open to see what they suggest. So far this morning has been good, more solid stool and she ate great! But she wouldn't eat last night so it's still up and down. She's also been itching her ears and she is always licking her feet. Could this be just an allergy I wonder? She had been doing so good since we switched to Wellness but then out of the blue this all starts up.

Scratching, licking feet and soft stool can all be a sign of food intollerence. Talk to your vet. What I have read others on the forum doing is feeding a food that has only two or three ingredients. Blue Buffelo has a limited ingredient line and maybe Taste of the Wild, you will need to do some research. You can make Chick n rice with veges for your baby instead of canned food. Boil a chic, cook rice in broth from the chic, mix in cooked peas n carrots. My dogs get this every morning with a little kibble. Hopefully someone with a bit more experience with allergies will come along and have some advice for you. Good luck with the vet.
