| Tazzie is not doing very well. You all know tazzie had shunt surgery Wed. last week. He was vomiting before surgery and is still, which i understand. But took him to vet they put him on pepcid ac , never worked. He was still on lactulose and melocicam his pain meds, they said leave him on them. Well he started throwing up had some blood in it, took him back to vet they gave him ondansetron i guess for sick tummy, its not working, so this morning i got up and he was pooping blood so back to vet i went, they gave him metronidazole and finally took him off of pain meds, so far its still not working hes still throwing up, maybe need to be patient? Im just so worried, vet said he didnt think it was from his surgery, but he did no exrays or anything. If not better back to vet mon. No one seems to really tell me why he would be pooping blood, its bright red? Any answers? Help!!!!! He is not dehyrated he said and he acts like he fills OK not real perky. |

| Did a board certified surgeon do the surgery? What are they saying? That much vomiting sounds very abnormal. No bloodwork post surgery? Are they sure it's not pancreatitis (the pancreas can get very angry when touched during surgery..). It sounds like it's time for bloodwork to be done. I'd wonder what his CBC is like also. I think taking him off of the pain med was a good idea. Giving NSAIDs to dogs after LS surgery is questionable at best. How many episodes of vomiting and diarrhea? They didn't give any fluids?

| I am so sorry Tazzie is not doing well but hopefully the vet will find a way to help more. Prayers are being said for your little loved one.

I think maybe she should call the Un of Tenn and ask them questions. I hope Tazzie starts to feel better soon.

and Bear too! ♥ Donating Member | is he still drinking? not sure where you are in WV but there is an emergency vet clinic in Fairmont if he needs treatment before Monday. My Ziggy has been sick twice in the last month with the vomiting and pure blood stool. I lost Rusty to this on 9/19/11. My black Lab also had it. No answers still as to what caused it either. Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you and Tazzie!

| Absolutely call University of TN or have your vet call UT. There is someone there, on call, 24 hrs a day to answer your questions. I can't tell you how many times I called after our surgery for silly litlle questions...and for something like your problems, I would 100% call them. I am sending prayers and good thoughts your way - please keep us updated.... |
