| LIver issues Its a sad day for Gabby and her family. We took her in to be spay on Monday and her BUN levels were low. We ran a Bile Acid test yesterday and the resuts showed pre 325 and post 93. My vet feels this idicates probably MVD. I will probably take her to WSU vet Hospital to have further liver testing done. Gabby shows no other signs except a very poor apetite. To say we are heart sick is an understatement. If any of you have any advise I sure would appreciate it. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear the news. My Cali has very mild MVD. She does very well on a lower protein diet. I am glad you are taking her for further evaluation. Good luck and keep us posted.

| Thanks for your reply, do you remember Cali's Bile Acid test numbers? How did they determine a mild case of MVD with her? I am trying my best to educate myself so I can make the best choices for our little girl. We lost our last yorkie to heart failure and were so hoping for a healthy puppy. |

| Not personally familiar with MVD, but you can search this site... there are a number of threads on the subject. Prayers for Gabby and family.

| My Lucy has mild MVD - we had two sets of Bile Acids done and they were moderately high each time - but not high enough to warrant a huge change in diet OR surgery. For her, I limit her protein (somewhat) by using a 'Senior" type kibble - which usually containes less protein. She does not get beef or lamb . . things like that. Honestly, that is all we have had to do so far - get her off the high protein diet. She is still a picky eater but she maintains a good weight . . Keep us posted.

| Today we are faxing Gabby's records to WSU Vet Hospital. Her Bile Acid Test require immediate action. Please keep her in your prayers. Already I have learned a lot. Trust your gut on your babies!!!! My little girl was a picky eater because eating made her sick. If you feel something is off insist on a Bile Acid Test. This site has been so important for information and support thank you all. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I hope you get some encouraging news. Cali's pre were both 0 and her first post was in the 80's and the second one was in the upper 40's. The specialist we went to said generally bile acids under 100 are MVD and higher ones can be a external shunt. Cali was an extremely pick eater as a puppy now she can't get enough food. She has had no issues with the MVD and is now 6 1/2. I will keep Gabby in my prayers.
