Zowi is in the hospital overnight :(
 

as some of you know, zowi was diagnosed with atypical cushing's this past june...
this morning i woke up to my baby girl not feeling well, diarrhea and vomitting so her daddy took her to the dr. (i had to go to work) bloodwork showed a slight case of pancreatitis, high triglycerides, and high cholesterol, and xrays showed her bowels were full, so she's constipated. maybe the constipation is from the medications she is on for cushing's? she takes denamarin and hmr lignans once daily. thank god we caught this early, my angel nika (zowi's daughter) passed away from her 2nd bout (a very extreme and aggresive case) of pancreatitis, so hearing zowi has it made my heart sink. dr said she had to stay overnight on iv and be without food / water for 24 hours and if all goes well, we will have her back home tomorrow. she is going to work on finding a good diet for zowi to help with the cushing's, enlarged liver, and pancreatitis. (we are currently feeding blue buffalo small breed chicken & brown rice for over a year.)
they also went ahead and did her acth stimulation test that was scheduled for thursday today, since she already had to stay there. her pre and post stimulation blood samples will be sent to the university of tennesee endocrinology department again and it will take 2 weeks for the results and their recommendation of the next plan of treatment if there's no improvement from the melatonin implant and lignans.
it's not the same without her at home. :( we miss her so much and so does pixie. this morning while zowi was getting sick pixie just sat right next to her staring at her and you could just tell she was so worried. please say prayers for my sweet girl zowi. thanks for listening. i will update tomorrow afternoon....

That is so sad. I hope you hear good news about her care and treatment. I know how hard it is to not have them home and worry how they're feeling without you there. Sending prayers for Zowi.

It's emotionally hard enough when babies are sick... to have to be away from them makes it even worse. Hope ya'll are able to get at least a little rest tonight and hope morning brings good news. Prayers for Zowi and your family.

Prayers for Zowi, I had a Cairn Terrier with Cushings and we were blessed to have him for 14 years with no serious symptoms and no medicine. Hope Zowi will be home with Pixie tomorrow.

Any update? Maxine is on IAMS LOW-Residue that we get at the vets and she has done quite well with it as we almost lost her years back when she had 2 real bad bouts of pancreatitis. Hope she gets to come home today. Hang tough

So sorry that Zowi is in the hospital. That is always so hard on us. Been there, done that - so I understand the heartache you are feeling. I don't know what Cushings is but will look it up and hope that your little one comes home soon.

good news is that zowi is home! she is not 100% herself, but she seems much better than yesterday morning! she was given a cerenia injection to control vomiting, sent home with zeniquin (antibiotic), and famotidine pepcid ac for upset tummy / gas / constipation.
but then some more bad news. in addition to pancreatitis, her thyroid is low (hypothyroidism) and she will need to take l-thyroxine once a day for that. we will recheck her thyroid, cholesterol, and triglyceridesin 1 month she will continue denamarin and hmr lignans daily. my poor baby will be taking 6 medications a day now. :( a permanent diet has not been decided on yet, but for the next week zowi has to eat only prescription diet w/d from the vet. i just fed her when i got home and she did eat the whole serving, as she did for the vet techs this morning.
the next plan of treatment for the cushing's itself will be determined upon results from her endocrine panel to tennessee. last time it took the full 2 weeks to get the results so that's what i am expecting this time too. our dr will have a phone consult with university drs to discuss what treatment they recommend after her results are in.
THANK YOU!!!! to each and every one of you for your advice, well wishes, and prayers. they really mean so much. i worked all day and want to give zowi all my attention or i would respond to each one of you right now but i did want to update. i know you guys understand! its so sad to see them when they're sick but at least she's home with us! pixie was so happy to see her too!
