Sending good thoughts and prayers to you and Taycie. Hope you get some news soon. Waiting is nerve wracking! |
Ok.. I ended up calling the vet.. I couldn't take it. She said she is acting very normal. Very curious, happy. She did say.. she is very very sweet:) She said she was deyhrated so she has been on fluids all day. She has also had a Cernia injection as well to control the nausea. Her CBC came with slightly elevated liver ensymes. She said it was 15 points out of range. She said she wasn't horribly concerned..it could be Pancreatitis and it couldn't be. She wanted to wait to see.. This part is rather confusing to me I am confused on the wait and see.. I don't really understand it. I did bring up doing a cPL test and she didn't think she needed this?... I am rather confused.. I go and pick her up at 4 so I will be asking more questions. She also didn't feel like changing her diet was necessary. She said she didn't want to cause more distress on her GI system because is already on a Rabbit and Potato diet. She said putting her on a rice and chicken diet may cause further distress. She did however want me to feed the RC Rabbit and Potato wet food to her with a little water tonight. So.. this is what I know.. On the bright side.. Her Electrolites look good, her Red and White Blood Cell also looks very good as well. I will post more when I know (understand) more.. |
I should add she is sending me home with Metronidazole in case diaherra follows. She said this could happen. She also wants me to give Pepcid as well. |
I've never done a cPl test on our dogs and my vets do what yours is doing. The liver can indeed get easily thrown off. Was the amylase or lipase elevated? |

I can't remember... I will ask when I get there.. Now I feel dumb.. I should remember that but the medical jargin gets so confusing to me. |
Cathy.. What is the difference between amylase and lipase?.. If one is more elevated then the other what does this mean? |
It's just a different approach.. I think each vet does what they have historically had success with. Many vets rely on lipase and amylase alone. Some see they are elevated and call it pancreatitis. Some see that they aren't elevated and say it's not pancreatitis or probably isn't. And others just run the cPL because why the heck not? If it's not very clear here (lipase/amylase up and the clinical presentation is that of pancreatitis), my vet runs the test. I think it's a matter of to each their own. For my puppy dogs, I want to have a yes or no answer because as serious as IBD is, pancreatitis is still immediately life threatening. As long as she is bouncing back and has to be on this food anyway, it may not matter much. It's just nice to know what is going on. |
my husband's jack russell has issues with liver enzymes getting off really easily. I've been to the vet with him so many times that I know now what to do...and the signs. I starve him from all food and feed him a scrambled egg, plain with nothing added to it...also boiled potatoes....not sure what this does...but in 24 hours, his throwing up and diarrehea is gone! |
I am just now seeing this. I am glad that Taycie got into the vet and feeling better. Please keep us updated! |
I'm sorry Taycie was sick. I hope she improves quickly. |
I just brought my sweet angel girl home. How excited am I to see her face! Ok... I talked with my vet more about the bloodwork. Her amylase/lipase was not elevated. It was her ALK Phosphates. I think I heard wrong because, I was a nervous wreck and I just had pancreatitis on the brain. She is home and her normal, yappy, sweet, loving self. Tonight I start her on the metronidozle and a few spoonfuls of her RC wet food mixed with water. I am just happy to have her home. She also told me unless she is showing more symptoms that we will not need to go back and have her rechecked. Otherwise, just spoil her until she gets better. Which, I of course I can do that! |
Oh, I'm so very glad Taycie girl is feeling so much better now. Kisses to that sweet girlie. |
Glad Taycie is home. |
Sorry I missed this earlier today but wonderful that Taycie is home with her Momma tonight :) |
