The symptoms you have described does not sound like what I would consider an emergency...I have had pups get sick from shots before. Usually that lasts for 24 hours.

I was just about to pm you Linda. I will NEVER let them do that again. I love my vet but I am upset over this! She is playing a little now. But I am scared to death about the quivering. I just have never seen it before. And she is eating now too. Potty is normal, etc. Just the quivering. She has never had a reaction before.

Oh and the chin quivering I would guess is from stress or pain. My yorkies chin would quiver when they were very stressed or upset.

I called this morning and they told me to do baby aspirin. I think I am going to give her some more to see if it helps. Linda have you ever heard of doing this?

Some vets suggest aspirin for pain and some don't. Pain meds made for dogs are safer (aspirin can lead to GI ulceration issues pretty easily and it's an anticoagulant). Many people think one or two are safe, so no big thing. Really up to you and your vet.

My vet never recommends it and I would never give it. That said, if you trust your vet, then listen to them...

I actually took that first line out when I edited it. I read it incorrectly...both of those shots were given together for years. Many vets don't do that now. Honestly, I have never had a problem with rabies, but the DHPP...I have had many pups get sick from that. I have never given aspirin but I suppose that is ok. I recently had one of my pups run a high temperature from the DHPP and the vet put him on Metacam.

Yeah...I have never been advised to give aspirin to any of my pups.

Hobbes chin quivers when he is mad and wants to jump on one of the other dogs, Calvin will whine. Since you didn't have Mikki before maybe it has something to do with her. Maybe Rosie feels a little threatened and since she doesn't feel good she is nervous.:confused:

What I meant to say is that I think she would have had this happen even if she did not get the rabies. I have had more pups get sick from the DHPP in the past two years than I had altogether in all of my previous years. Not sure what is going on, but definitely more of them are having issues.
My poor Teddy had a temp of 104 from the DHPP a couple of months ago and was really feeling punky.
That said, I still don't think they should have more than one shot at a time.

As I said above, I don't believe that is what happened. My guess is she would be sick anyway...seriously.

Linda do you think it might have just been from the DHPP? Am I understanding correctly? Not the combination of the shots?

Has she done the lip quiver again? I tend to be a little hyper sensitive to anything Teddy does when he's sick so I completely understand what you're saying. When Teddy got too many shots at once he would become completely disoriented and even lie down on his pee pad...I think I called the emergency vet like three times that day. Just keep us updated, but I think Rosie perking up is a good thing.

No she has not done it any more. However, now I am holding her again. I am a worried momma. :(:( I want her in my arms.

Yes. I have been seeing lots of stuff with DHPP over the past two years. They lose their appetites....and run temps. Did you feel the insides of her ears to see if she might have a temp?

I also have had four of them scream every time I touched them...for 24 hours..no lie...I mean scream! The first one scared the heck out of me.

I did not feel the inside of her ears. I had never heard of that. They are not hot but a little warm.

Since you have not done it before....feel Mikki's ears and see if there is a difference. I will bet that Miss Rosie has a slight temp. If she had a high one those ears would be hot!

OMG Sugar did that!! I thought for SURE it was the Bordatella :eek:

She scared the hell out of me :( :( :( that is why I only give her intranasal now :(

Rosie's is definitely warmer than Mikki's. Mikki's feel almost cool.

My guess is it was the DHPP. It started happening a couple of years ago..actually that summer was the worst! I was talking to a new vet at my vet's practice and he said he saw it in a lot of pups that year. I did have it happen this year to one of them.

It was not bordatella here because I don't give it.

And, yes, it is very scary. It did not scare me after the first time...but that first time I rushed her to the vet. It was one of my fosters.

Probably a temp. Poor little girl. I am hopeful she will be better by morning.

I was so scared for her. I had only had her a few weeks :cry: and she looked as though I let her down!! :(

I got her in FEB of 09

She is walking around again. Makes me feel better that she is mobile. This morning she didn't move from my shoulder. Just wanted to be held. I didn't give the aspirin. Is there anything I can do for the temp?

Honestly, I don't think I would do anything. It does not sound like she has a high temp. Do you have a thermometer? You could take it to be certain.

When Teddy had his high fever, I put cool compresses under his tummy. But..he was burning up.

Just encourage her to drink water. If she likes ice cubes you could give her them to lick.

She just ate some more. And she also went pee pee when I took her out. At least I know she is not dehydrated. I think she is a lot better compared to this morning. Not as active as usual. And I can tell she don't feel good. But better. I think I will just keep a watch on her through the night and pray that all is better in the morning. You have given me so much peace of mind. I will give her continued extra mommy love.

I was afraid it was some sort of seizure. And of course, googling was not a good idea. :( Again, thanks so much!!

I will try the ice. Maybe that will help. I don't think it is very high. She was warm but not hot.
