| ![]() Found this at HowStuffWorks "How to Give First Aid to Your Dog: Tips and Guidelines" Not sure what a vet could do. Maybe antibiotics? Dog's Bleeding Ear Step 1: Restrain the dog if necessary. ©2006 Publications International, Ltd. Step 2 Step 1a: Approach the dog slowly, speaking in a reassuring tone of voice. Step 1b: Muzzle the dog to protect yourself. Step 2: Cover the wound with a clean cloth, sterile dressing, or sanitary napkin. Place dressing material on both sides of the ear flap, then fold it over the top of the dog's head and hold firmly to control bleeding. Step 3: Wrap torn sheets or rags around the dressing, ear, and head, making sure the entire ear is covered. Tape or tie the bandage in place. Step 4: Transport the dog immediately to the veterinarian.

| ![]() He is ![]() ![]() Would have went to the ER, but his vet said no need. Couldn't clean it because it just started bleeding again. Might at up at vet tomorrow though. Can't give anything to stop the coagulation, but maybe Tramadol. Should see if I brought some with me for E. Just don't know how much that would help a skin-type issue. Cant' really hurt though.

| ![]() I don't have any, darn it. ![]() It stopped though. They don't even have gauze here. Have to get some tmw. morning. I guess gauze goes in their travel bag from now on -- and e-collars.

Definitely would give him Tramadol. Poor baby...it has to hurt. But then, if he is sleeping, maybe not.

| ![]() He's up now. Scared to make it bleed again, but I guess I'll clean it. He is on antibios already, but not sure they are going to cover this (cefpodoxime). I'll talk to the vet in the morning again. Didn't want to interrupt her Friday night anymore than I already had to. Think I woke the poor girl up. Thankfully they are both current on rabies (and to whoever reading this, this is why your dogs should ALWAYS be current on rabies). He's been kissing my through it all. Big dogs just won't be his thing.

| ![]() What a sweetheart that he has been giving you kisses. I pray you can clean his ear and not have it start bleeding again. You probably are not going to get much sleep tonight. ![]()

| ![]() Do you have a tea bag? I'm not kidding. Black tea (not chamomile) bags help stop bleeding.

| ![]() Hmm, maybe they have one. Gave him Tramadol and some dinner. He is happily resting on my back as I lay on my stomach. Silly boy. Now to clean it.

| ![]() Well, I hope Lillimae sees this. She will be happy to see that I DO recommend teabags when appropriate. It is a well known fact that the tannins and other properties in black tea help w/ coagulation.
