They emailed me a little while ago to say that Sammy was being prepped for surgery so I am thinking it is underway right now. Waiting for the recovery room to call me... |
The surgeon called me from the OR. When they checked the repair they found that it had held except for the top area where the bladder had once again slipped in to the hernia. So, they are doing the repair with the material that they use; and then going in abdominally to stablize the bladder. Apparently the bladder is what caused the hernia repair to fail. So, poor little Sammy is really getting the once over. :( |

The surgeon called and said that Sammy's surgery went well and he is in ICU for the night. She will call me in the morning. |

Rough night for Sammy. We just got home a little while ago from the EC. He suddenly started coughing and sounded awful....very wet sounds. His gums looked ok....but I just did not like the way he sounded. His oxygen saturation was fine but they were concerned about possible aspiration pneumonia so they did xrays...was not that; but his heart (left side) is enlarged and the vet seems to think this could be pulmonary related. I will call my vet in am and ask about a cardio consult. He also changed his pain meds from bupranex to torbugesic since that will also help with the coughing. He certainly does not need to be coughing with a hernia repair. Poor little guy. He also will need that every 4 hours so I guess it will be a sleepless night here. I just hope he is ok. Brought back horrible memories of my little foster Ozzy who passed from CT. No, Sammy does not have CT, but he did not sound good at all. :( |
Oh...and he was discharged this morning, but I got very busy with some friends as we were getting things together for the dog show; so I did not have a chance to post. Sorry...kind of confusing I guess. |
