Something wrong with Teddy's eye

Yes He already went to the bathroom today (he goes once a day early in the morning) and he's eating food/drinking water etc. I don't know what to do I just wish I had a reliable vet I can talk to I feel so alone and scared.

Have you been checking his gums regularly since he started this medication? Maybe it affects the pigment of the gums. They are nice and pink otherwise, so I would think that is good. (gorgeous white teeth too )

Watch him closely tonight and if he has any problems tomorrow morning, take him to a vet. I feel so bad for you that you have not found a doctor that you can rely on and trust. Have you tried looking for an AAHA accredited vet?

I see that you live in Tallahasse. I asked a friend if she could give a recommendation and this is what she suggested. They are a regular Vet during normal hours and they are also an ER Vet after hours. They also AAHA.
Not sure how far they are from you.

No, I honestly have not been checking his gums regularly. I only check his gums when he vomits or has diarrhea to make sure they're pink and moist...I read online that the dying of parasites causes vomiting and diarrhea? I don't know? Should I get Teddy blood tested? I'm not sure what to do.

Thank you so much for your recommendation. This is the first vet I went to and they gave Teddy a bunch of shots at once plus lepto and tried to give him rabies as well but I stopped them because I knew that he was too young for a rabies shot. The vet claimed that it was clerical error and that they had written his age down wrong. If I didn't know about the rabies shot/age I wouldn't have stopped her and they would have administered all of these shots in one day:
puppy series, bordatella, lepto AND rabies on a 5lb dog I don't know I really don't want to go back there...

What is AAHA? I've been to one of those hospitals and didn't have a good experience but I'll be more than happy to try another. Thank you.

That is disheartening to hear and strange because that is against the vacc protocol for an AAHA vet: American Animal Hospital Association.

Max had everything possible given to him in one visit at our former vet when he was 3 pounds and 13 weeks old. I didn't know any better.

I know it would be expensive, but the only other thing I can suggest is finding a board certified internist in your area. Go in for a checkup and beg for a good referral to a regular vet.

How much longer does Teddy have with the ivermectin? Is his eye improving?

I barely knew any better. I had asked her about lepto and it's prevalence in our area and she said that it was extremely high risk. Two other vets told me that we are not high risk and that they've encountered maybe two cases in 20 years. Teddy was lethargic and vomiting for 2 days after being given all those shots at once. I felt miserable. Teddy is extremely active as usual but rarely does he ever exhibit any type of stress when he's sick.

I have been following this thread and just want to say,Sincere questions are never ridiculous. I hope some one with more medical knowledge than me answers you soon. I will say a prayer for you and sweet Teddy. And for you to find a super good Vet that can answer questions and provide the proper treatment. I wish you were located more central in Fl. I live in Bartow, that is near Lakeland. And about 30 mins from either Tampa or Orlando. We have Vets who specialize in everything. I am glad TxVicki had some recommendations. Please up date us when you can.

He has one more week. His eye is not completely healed yet. Presumably, I have to go in again to have him "checked" so that the vet can tell me that the mites are still not gone (which I know because his eye is still not back to normal) and get another round of the medicine. I read online that this might take up to two months to clear up on its own which I already figured...but I'm just afraid this medication is too taxing on his system. At first he had diarrhea...which I told the vet about but he said to just wait and see if it gets better (it did after a week) I was told to continue the treatment which I have and now he's vomiting and his gums... I just don't know.

Oh no I'm so sorry you had a problem there. I know my friend swears by them. She has Malteese.
Maybe you can find another one that is AAHA.

Well, lots of vets work there so maybe I just had bad luck. Who knows?

I am so sorry you have had such a hard time finding a vet you are comfortable with.

If Teddy continues to have problems, I am going to again suggest that you ask about the Goodwinol because that is what I used on Sunny D and he had no issues with it. Definitely worth asking about because it is not a systemic treatment.
