| After 2 years, Barley's tooth has to go When we got Barley from a rescue two years ago I noticed he had a broken off about half way down canine bottom tooth. I had my vet look at it and she didn't see a need to pull it if it wasn't causing issues. She's checked it every year and all was well up until Thursday morning. His little cheek swelled up so we had to go in to see our vet. And boy did Barley got a through exam (poor guy) to rule out a bite of some kind. Then just as I has suspected she said the tooth is the cause for the swelled up cheek. She spotted very dark red gums under the tooth and normal pink gums away from it. She started him on antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory & pain medicine. Tomorrow morning he's going in to have it removed once and for all. Good news is all the tooth brushing has paid off and he does not need a dental still So thrilled about that. Now I have to ask, just to know...it's gonna be $250 to $300 for the one tooth pull...is that a normal price for such a procedure? Not that I can do anything but pay it right now so my little man continues to get better, but I'm curious. I snapped a couple pictures while at the vet's of him sitting on the waiting bench and thought I'd share. Please, keep him in your prayers tomorrow. Thank you!!!!! | If the dog is undergoing anesthesia for a tooth removal, I would insist a dental be done. Brushing is great but nothing takes the place of a professional cleaning and polishing. And the price seems great to me. Good luck!

| Barley is soo cute. I agree with the dental - he's already under so why not clean the rest of his teeth? The price sounds about right for my area. Good Luck!

| Armani had a broken tooth that got infected and had to go- with xrays, anesthesia, pulling that tooth and cleaning the rest (since he was under already) it was about 800 dollars.

| Barley is home and resting right now. His nasty tooth is gone and he's got his antibiotic and deramaxx in him for the pain/swelling. Poor little man was so upset with me for leaving him this am....then I had to work late so Dh went to get him. Thanks for the kind thoughts and wishes!!!!
