Also coccidia can affect the organs & the brain. You said that the vet said she has a mild case though so it's not likely but still possible. |

Tammie, how is Faith doing today? So sorry for all you have gone thru in the last 24 hrs., and hope you get some answers soon. |
Just reading, I'm so sorry this is happening.... Sending thoughts and prayers your way, I hope you get answers soon |
Update? |
I first want to say thank you to everyone for all your help, thought's and prayers. :ghug: Faith Ann is doing GREAT!!!!!!!!!! We went to the vet this morning and she got her check up. Her neuro symptoms are almost all gone. She is NOT falling now....she can walk straight, she can drink from her water bowel with out wobbling and she wanted to play today. She is still eating on her own...still the canned food but she is going back to the mush food and getting a few bites so I will start to add more of that and less of the canned. Her bowels still have blood in them but the are now firming up. She will give kisses and roll over and let you rub her tummy. She is still sleeping a lot but that is expected. The vet does NOT think she has a liver shunt. He said at her age she would have had problems before this but he is still going to keep an eye on it. We will have blood work re-done on Monday to see if the infection is gone and what her numbers are then. If the liver is still showing problems then he will do the bile acid test on her. Her WBC was 18.73. Normal range is 5.50-16.90. We still don't know what the cause of the infection is and could be from the coccidia is my thinking. The 2 shots yesterday seem to have either cleared out what ever she ate if she ate anything that caused her to be sick since they are not showing up on the blood work. So, as of now we are letting the 3 meds do their job and will re-do blood work on Monday. I still call in daily with her status and any changes for the worse she is to be immediately taken in. Otherwise we wait for the blood work and see where to go from there. Yesterday I did not think she was going to make it. She was just horrible. Today I think she is going to be just fine. She may still have her problems but I think she is doing much better. Still staying with her at all times just so I don't miss anything but I can breathe again for the moment. Thank you again!!!! |
That's WONDERFUL!! I am so happy for you and little Faith. :) I will keep her in my prayers for continued improvement. Hugs, Bonny |
Oh Thank Goodness that she's doing better now. Let's hope & pray that she stays that way. Thank You for taking care & control of the situation quickly. |
Tammie what an emotional roller coaster you have been on. I am just catching up and I went from being afraid to being relieved as I read. It does sound like she ate something and is getting better now. I pray that she continues to improve. Best wishes and I hope you get a little rest. |
Glad to hear the baby is home! Praying you see continued improvement. Poor baby! We will keep you both in our prayers. |
We still don't know the exact cause of the problem and I would still like to find that out if possible. Also don't know if she will have further problems so right now we are just taking one step at a time and clear up what we can and then going from there. I just want to make sure that she is free and clear of all problems so she will be here with me for awhile and then we will start slow and let her take a sissy there with her so she is not stressed. If that doesn't work then we will figure something else out. |
I am glad she is doing much better. |
Tammie, These pups are going to continue to keep us at the edge of our seats! I am very happy to hear that she is doing much better. Sending hugs and prayers. |
I'm wondering if the new Mommy had used the vac the day this happened or mopped the floors with pinesol or used any spray air freshener or using any kind of cleaning product just prior to the episode. Also how long she had been behind the entertainment center and are there cords back there that she could possibly have gotten tangled in for long enough to slow her oxygen for a bit. I just am feeling that this did not start out to be a med condition but environmental somehow. Does the new Mommy smoke > if so indoors ? |
Nice to see the update and the Faith is doing better today. I will continue to check for updates and hope that they can figure out what is going on with her. |
I'm so HAPPY to read that Faith is doing much better today. Prayers will certainly continue for her. |
Am just seeing this thread and wondering if Faith is from the Miracle Puppies born about the time of the Super Bowl and during the bad weather where the dam had so many problems. Gosh, I am so sorry this baby and OP and new owner have had such a terrible time! I hope it was just something she ate and is now getting over as best she can and not something chronic. Poor little thing sounds like she has been through horrors and poor OP the same, but so glad you took the pup over and are looking after her. Sounds like she is in capable hands of someone who is going to see to it that she gets the best of the best care and who is totally in love with Yorkies! God bless you and Faith and the vets caring for her and here is hoping and praying this little darling gets over this with no after-effects. |

Hi Friends, I will try to answer all the questions the best that I can. But first let me update. Faith (Yes, one of the Miracle Babies) is still doing good. We still have moments where I think she may be going back downhill but she has times where she is doing great. She will get up now and walk faster to the gate if someone comes in the front door that she knows...like me or her mom. She is still weak but time should help that. She will only stay up for a little bit before she goes back to sleep so she is not over doing and knows when she needs to rest. Still eating good. Keeping her blood sugar up on her own. Have not had to give Nutrical in over 24 hrs now. Drinking plenty of water and urinating just fine. Stool is still getting firmer but still has blood in it. Not as much but still there. I did get a chance to go over to Faith's home today and took Baby Grace and Hope with me to let them show me what they can get into. They did a great job of finding little no-no's that were not threats but was a learning tool as to just what and where these little ones go and get into. Did find out that she did use a carpet cleaner on a potty spot and that Faith did come and sniff it so that could have been the toxin that we was looking for. So I sent the vet a text message to let him know and he will check it out. So I did tell her about getting a pet safe carpet cleaner and how to use it while the dog is out to prevent them from helping clean up the mess. So I think today has been a great day so far and a learning experience for us too. Thank you again for everything!!! |
Oh what a relief. Hope you and Faith get some rest tonight. That was just crazy and not knowing for sure what set her off is so upsetting. Hugs. |
Wow, You are one really good foster mom. |

Hi Everyone, Today has not been a good day. Sorry I did not post earlier I have just had my hands full today. Faith was doing so well and today has taken a turn. This morning I let her out into the living room to walk around but mainly so I could monitor her walk and if she was seeing properly. I scattered some of my grand daughter's toys around so she would have to walk around things. She did just fine. Walking was slow but good. I have been concerned with her eyes so I wanted to know how good her vision was and she would see the toy and walk around it. I stood away from her and got her attention and then wiggled my fingers for her to come to me and she did so I knew the eye sight was better. However, when she got to me I went to pick her up like I always do and she screamed!!!! I immediately put her back down and she cried for a little longer and then wondered off. I watched her for a minute and then she came back to me and I lightly felt her all over. She whined some especially when I got to her tummy. So I woke the vet up. He thought maybe it was gas so to watch her and call the office when it opened and see how she is doing then. No problem...that is only an hour from then. I managed to coax her into the crate and brought the crate into the room with me so I could keep an eye on her. After an hour she finally started to whine a little so I opened the door and let her out. She got a drink and went potty. Then she wondered into the living room again. Let her walk around and she did just fine. Got on the floor and she did try to play some. Very slow in her movements but you could tell she was trying to play. Vet said maybe the canned food was giving her gas and her tummy was upset so to still watch her a little longer. Ok. I let her continue to do her thing and it was feeding time so I gave her the food and her medicines. She then played with me after eating and I gave her my hair scrunchie and she shook it. After about 5-7 minutes she started getting real weak and just kinda fell on my arm and layed there. Called the vet...my thought is the new med he gave her. He said it might be to stop that one and continue the other 2 and lets see how she does. She goes and lays down and is crying some but not loud. After laying there for about 30 minutes she cries out and then gets up and goes to a different bed. She moans for a little bit and then goes to sleep. Gets up later and doing just fine. Walks around good. Does what I call playing but it real life is isn't. LOL But if you touch her tummy then she will cry out. Next meal...does fine. No loud crying...slightly moan when moving but not much. Latest meal. Ate good. No problems. I had to leave for a little bit and when I came back everyone else was in the living room and she was in the computer room and she started screaming. I ran in here and she was in the bed trying to get up. She didn't cry any more. She got up I lightly petted her let her walk around in the living room again. She did that and decided it was time for bed so she came back in here and climbed back into the bed and cried out again and now is sleeping. So...here are the questions.. Can it be the Wellness puppy food causing her gas pain or an upset tummy?? Do I try to use a different food?? Could it be the antibiotics that she is taking be causing her problems? We go to the vet in the morning so I am sure he will tell me what we are doing then but right now I just don't know what to do with her. I can't keep wasting money rushing her to the ER to be told it is nothing and I can't get in to see a neurologist till next week. A&M said I can bring her to their ER and they can check her but that is 3 hours away and would they tell me any more than the ER we went to? Both vets said the coccidia and the infection can be the cause of the neuro problems so they both said to just let the med work right now. I am not even sure who we need to see since her neuro problems are better. The blood in the stool is gone. I am just at a complete loss as to what to do and where to go. |
I would take her somewhere anywhere & get an x-ray ASAP. As tiny as she is they should be able to take 1 x-ray to cover her whole body. That would check for AAI and any obstruction she may have in her tummy as well. |
Tammie, I'm so sorry she is still having problems. Maybe lillymae is on to a possible clue, if they haven't xrayed yet, could there be some obstruction. Still praying for recovery and answers. Hugs. |

Think the coccydia gave her gastroenteritis or kink in her intestine that is hurting? That poor little baby! |
Baby Faith will be having x-rays tomorrow to rule out an obstruction ar AAI. This is something that can be done quickly so they can move on with diagnosing as she is still having her ups & downs. Please keep the Prayers coming. |
