Is there a chance that she got anything with xylitol in it ? Does anyone have contact with Tammy that could call to ask her ?

Good deal then. I am just sick to my stomach over this as I'm sure everyone else is too. This is just not rite , it should be a happy time. I am Praying for this little Girl. She just HAS to be Ok.

MauiGirl 05-10-2011 09:17 PM

Email from Tammie 10 min. ago from ER: parvo test is neg. still doing more bloodwork.

Hope she sees my message about Xylitol, that is a possibility, and many new owners are not aware of it's danger.

I know and I WISH they would take it off the market. Doesn't Saras mom have another dog ? I'm sure Sara knows about it & would think she would have shared that info with her Mom. God she has to be Ok.

MauiGirl 05-10-2011 09:23 PM

Tammie replied that the new owners aren't gum chewers or on a diet or diabetic, so doubts that xylitol is involved. Still unsure about the cause.

I'm just sick over this. Like many of you who became attached to the Miracle Babies, I feel like an auntie to them.

Praying some more, Little Faith please pull thru and be ok.....

Me too, and I can't imagine how Tammie is dealing with it right now. She has put so much time, energy and love into these little pups, and has just gone thru the sad reality of 2 going to their forever homes, and now little Faith is seriously ill.

Oh I'm sure she's in shock rite now as is her new Mommy. I was thinking and wondering if she could have Colitis as I have a Malti/Pom who has it & he gets disoriented when he has an attack with it. When I was a tech I did see a couple of puppies that has those symptoms as well. Was her food changed in her new home or any new treats added ?
A dog can actually hemmorage to death with Colitis before you ever see blood in the stool.

lillymae 05-10-2011 09:50 PM

I assume they have her on IV ? and do you know if they did an x-ray to rule out that she may have eaten a sharp object ? being disoriented can simply mean she is having severe pain and the dilated pupils can mean pain as well, doesn't always have to mean something neuro. I'm praying it's something like that.

MauiGirl 05-10-2011 10:06 PM

I'm not sure about IV and xrays, but you bring up a good point about swallowing something sharp. Puppies seem to have to eat everything they find on the floor.

Yes and if this is the case , it could explain the neuro symptom from pain in her tummy as well as the dilated pupils & the blood in the stool. Did you E her that ?
If not Please do so , Thanks.

Great, Thank You ! I hope we hear something GOOD soon.

Tammie just got home. They found a tiny amt. of coccidia and gave meds for that, blood didn't reveal anything abnormal from eating something, and next they will test for liver shunt.

Maybe Tammie will have more to add in the morning, but for now it is still a mystery.

Good night all. Keep praying for Faith.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Her blood work came out fine for the most part. No evidence that she has eaten anything posionous however her wbc is up so she does have an infection going on. Her blood sugar was normal. Stool was negative for Parvo...they did find a small trace of coccidia so all the puppies are being treated for that. However, there is still no identifiable reason for what she is doing but they are leaning towards a liver shunt. Her number showed that it could be possible but at her age she needs a different test. So we are back home now. She still has the bloody stool and all the puppies hate me right now cause I just gave them medicine. LOL

So we go to our vet in the am and go from there. If anyone has any info on what and how I go about getting her to A&M that would be great. Also if they know costs that will help me out a bunch too. Even ball park figures lets me know which one of my skin kids to sell. LOL

Please still keep her in your prayers. She really is a sweet little girl and just did not ask for any of this to happen.

Hugs!!!

MauiGirl 05-10-2011 11:08 PM

Hugs to you, and prayers for Faith continue.

If her WBC is up it will throw off the liver enzymes as well so testing her liver before the infection is gone will really be a wast of time. I'd be willing to bet that it's not a shunt but off from her other problems and that's what I'll be praying for. Just cannot imagine what the heck happened between the few hrs that she left you & went to her new home. So they did not do an x-ray ?

Correct, that is why she will have to have a different one done. According to the vet at the ER hospital they believe the move to her new home caused her to become very stressed. The stress activated the coccidia which is what is causing the bloody stool. She still could have ate something that is the cause of the neuro problems but it is NOT showing up in the lab work. They said it could have moved the high levels out of the body already which is why it would not show up on the blood work. The neuro could also be from the liver shunt that just so happened to show it's ugly head when she got stressed from the move. They still have NO idea where the infection is coming from or what caused it. Yesterday her temp at 2 was 100.8 at 1 am it was 103.8. Some of the symptoms of the LS are vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, unresponsiveness, temporary blindness, seizures, spaciness, disorientation, circling, poor skin and coat, excessive drinking, excessive urination.

They honestly really do NOT know what is wrong with her. They just ruled out what they know it is not. They want the liver shunt ruled out which is what they feel she might have based on what she is doing. Her eyes where dilating again last night and she is walking better so her neuro signs have improved with the meds that the 1st vet gave and they agreed with that.

I did ask about an x-ray but I was asking about one of her head and they said it would just show a fracture but they felt her head and said they did not think that was necessary. Never did I think of asking for one to see if she had swallowed something and they never said anything about it either.

I wish I knew everything that happened when she left my house also but I don't and will probably never know. I do know her family is deeply upset that she is sick. They even met me at the ER last night and was in tears as we all have been.

I just really don't know what is/was her cause of all the problems and just pray that she will be alright.

Thank you. When I posted it I was always under the impression that it took more to get an appointment with them then just calling and setting it up. :) Do you have any idea what their fees are compared to seeing someone local?? After we get back from the vet this morning I will be calling them. If nothing else just to rule out that the neuro problems are gone and if she has a liver shunt.

My prayers are coming your way!!! Hang in there baby girl

Another Vet Dr. Franks at the DFWVet Surgeons which is located in Grapevine also has really good experience with Liver Shunt issues. She has done many surgeries on Yorkies with Liver Shunt. I also that the Rescue Group that I adopted from have great experience with her.

Tammy, I'm just now seeing this. Poor little Faith! I'm sorry I have no suggestions, but I'm sending lots of prayers for Faith. She and the rest of the miracle babies have a big part of my heart - I pray you find answers and she's all well again soon.

Hugs for all of you,
Bonny

Sending good thoughts, hugs and prayers to Tammie and Faith.

AllDogBoots 05-11-2011 07:19 AM

I don't believe I'm familiar with the Miracle Babies story. My prayers are with you and your little one. It really sounds like you are doing everything you can and I hope you get answers soon. The waiting and diagnosing is so difficult. Hang in there Faith!

kjc 05-11-2011 07:35 AM

I'll be praying for your baby...

Normally with Liver shunt the pup would get worse right after eating... you were saying she improved a bit? So IDK... Hope they find out what it is soon.
