Ask your vet about starting him on Heart Worm Preventative when he's all better. Most Heartworm products will kill off any round or hook worm infections before they can do any damage, flea preventative will keep fleas at bay and thereby keep tapeworms away. (Stay away from any 'new' products, request 'proven' products)

I am so very sorry to hear that your little guy has had so many problems.
How very sad that he has to go through this.
How lucky he is to have you to love and take care of him.
SHAME ON THAT "BREEDER" (and I use that term loosely)
Forgot yo say welcome to Yorkie Talk. There are a lot of very knowledgeable, caring and supportive people here.
I will keep your little guy in my prayers.

Another thing I noticed about Wiley that didn't cross my mind until today...
Wiley does not bark. I have never heard him bark. He wines when he wants me, but I can hardly hear him. He can play grawl, but is faint... Is this normal? It was louder when I first got him, but now his voice is very low. Wiley had a GOOD day today with a few coughs, but nothing major. He weighs in at 1# 15.6oz today. I think he will make the 2# mark by tomorrow which will be like celebrating a birthday!!! I purchased some Virgin Coconut oil today at the Natural Harvest Food Store. I used some on Wiley and he smells yummy. LOL

My Sassy is 8 months old and she doesn't bark very much, she didn't bark when she was younger. She likes to growl, when she barks the other dogs aren't scared. Hope Wiley continues to feel better.

You mentioned that your vet said he may have had a seizure. Vaccines can cause seizures.

Please for your dog's sake try to read up on the health consequences of too many vaccines.

Wiley will be going in on Friday for an x-ray
I asked my vet about what vaccines they give and it is DA2PV. They said that this does not have the Corona virus vaccination. Is this fine to give and does it need to be split at all? Not educated when it comes to vaccinations. I just knew they needed distemper and rabies. My other vet for my Shih Tzu's gives the DHPPCV. More photos posted of Wiley if you want to peek... loss of hair. Tammy

You're assuming that the breeder gave him no vaccines. If the breeder did in fact vaccinate him and now you vaccinate him again, he may have negative health implications from it. Did you get a chance to read any of the links on vaccines that I attached.

Hi there,

Thanks for your concern. I have been struggling with Wiley since I got him as he was extremely ill with two infections, yeast infection in ears, shedding/thinning/balding of coat/hair, congested cough/choke & throw up. (he wouldn't eat when I got him & on his dealth bed so to speek) He was also extremely thin, barely any muscle mass... just a walking frame of bones. It has been one excuse after excuse with this breeder. As of 05/20/11 it will be 1 month taking him to the vet trying to find everything wrong with him and med after med. If I go on the breeders word that his last vaccination was on 04/18or19/11 then he would be due for his 2nd vaccination as the 1st one didn't count because she said she gave it at 5 1/2 wks of age. My vet & I are not planning on giving him any vaccinations until he is 100% better. I am only asking about vaccinations so that I do not give him too much of something. I was told that DHPPCV is too much for these little ones to handle and should be split DHPP CV. but my vet gives DA2PPV (I think that is it or is it) DA2pV. I am only asking if this needs to be split, but I am assuming it doesn't. Either way, Wiley needs his set of vaccinations when he gets better and I will not give Rabies till he is at least 8months.
He goes in tomorrow for more testing. XRAY

I'm sorry, I'm not a lot of help in how they split the vaccine dose, but my vet does split the vaccines up in these little ones. They are some vet ppl on the site that probably know how they split the vaccines.

If you are wondering if prior vaccine antibodies are still present, titers can be done.

DA2PPV should be fine when he's ready, I think.... I'll have to look that up and get back to you..

Gidget529.... YOU & so many others have helped me out and many others on YT!!! I don't know what I would do without all of you. I am so glad God led me to this site... it is a BLESSING

He will need two sets of vaccs when he's 100%. The first vac at 5.5 weeks was destroyed by the maternal antibodies (should never have been given) and the 2nd vac was given the day before he arrived home sick, so was destroyed by the pups immune system. That is why not to vaccinate sick dogs.

He will need to be vaccinated as he is a puppy and could die from those diseases if he's exposed to them.
