At 14 weeks he can get his 3rd DHPP, if he is well. (1 month inbetween vaccines) Depending on what your state law is, Rabies is usually given between 4-8 months. With a tiny pup, I would wait as long as possible (8 months), just keep him inside or in your arms until 2 weeks after he gets it. (if healthy) At 1 year old, he needs a DHPP Booster, then one month later, the Rabies Booster. (if healthy) I can't tell you what to do... but I have stated what I would do. I am not a Vet, my post reflects my opinions, and this vaccine schedule should be discussed with your vet. If your vet disagrees with this schedule... I would seek a second opinion from a different vet. Vaccines are very important, and as overvaccinating can be dangerous, it's important to know about them. |
Went to vet today because Wiley has this cough/congestion problem and he started to throw up a clear mucus. He even coughs in is sleep. It is so frustrating. I brough some of the mucus to the vet and they said he is throwing up some of his ??? from GI... stomach. He was put on Metoclopramide and to give 1/2 hour before meals but only every 8hrs as needed. I did give him a first dose at noon, but he still coughs. The first time he was in for it... the vet said he had sinus/allerigies and gave children's benedryl, but no luck. Sometimes he coughs so much and chokes that I think he is going to pass out from not being able to get enough air. He is still losing hair and they took a taping of his skin in different spots lost more hair from tape pulling it out and he has no mites or anything like that... just a bit of dry skin. He is playful and loving, gaining weight and eats like a little piggy... just two things I still worry about and can't seem to find the reasons why:( I added two new photos of his thinning hair |
Thanks so much for your opinion on vaccinations. To be honest... I still haven't gotten his shot records so I have to assume he hasn't had any. I have been waiting for almost a month for his records. He will be 14wks on 05/14/11 and no vaccinations yet because he was so sick and my vet said he is still too sick with his coughing and throwing up to give them. That made me happy to hear this from my vet because he is sick and only 1# 13oz today. So if I assume he had no vaccinations... can my other two dogs affect him? They are up to date on their vaccinations??? Thanks so much for your time and information. It helps so much... Everyone on YT are Angels!!! |
As for the vaccinations, I agree with your vet. If he is not well then hold off. But I would keep him home and away from other dogs for now just to be on the safe side. I think it's a very good sign that he has had no more episodes of the screaming and whatever that all was and also that he is putting on weight. He looks like a very sweet boy and I wish you lots of luck and good health from here on out! |
Have they ruled out kennel cough in your little boy? I am so sorry you haven't found any answers yet. It is good that he went to a good home where he is being well taken care of! |
Praying that your baby will be ok. It has to heartbreaking for you to see him so sick but glad to hear he is getting better. I hate to hear that we have such a lousy breeder from Georgia shipping sick puppies. At least he was blessed with a mommy that will take care of him and love him. |
Little Wiley has not coughed yet today which is a good sign. I gave him his Metoclopramide at 6am and fed him his dry food (Acana mixed with other brand until he is fully switched to Acana) a half hour later and no congestion/cough/choking.... I also switched his drinking water to Purified water instead of our well water. My fingers are crossed. He is extra playful today like someone put a battery in him and flipped the switch on HIGH. Too cute!!!:D Someone asked if the vet checked him for kennel cough and yes they did. Kennel Cough is ruled out. They thought he might have sinus or allergies because he was so congested with cough and his nose was runny so they had me give him Children's Benedryl, but it didn't seem to help. Thank You ALL for all the kind words, prayers, advice, and tons of very inportant information. :ghug: |
Wiley Wiley had three coughing/hacking/congestion episodes since my last post yesterday. It seems better with the Metronidazole, but I still worry about him. I didn't give him the med this morning because he seems to be doing fine. He only ate a few pieces of his food this morning and was more concerned and on a mission to eat my Shih Tzu's food which is Natural Balance Premium Ultra. I Wish Everyone A Safe & Happy Day & Pray That Comfort Will Touch Us All & Our Little Furbabies Today :animal-paWiley & Tammy:rose: |
Still praying for this sweet boy. I hope he is all better very soon. He sure is adorable!!!! |
Checked in to see how little Wiley is doing. Thought of you as I'm going through some awful coughing/gagging with Gidget. They put her on Clavamox and Delsym. We keep having those scary bouts, too. Will keep Wiley in our prayers. Hope he is back to his old self soon! |

It is extremely important to give the meds as prescribed by your vet and to finish all the meds. Failure to do so can cause bacteria to become immune to the medicine, then the meds will not help him, and he will continue to be sick. So please finish the medicines and give them to your pup as directed. |
