Don't beat yourself up. I did the very same thing with my first yorkie (pet), years ago. I knew nothing, brought her home at 8 weeks of age. All of sudden she started with a bloody, mucus stool......Ran her to the vet....I can't even remember what regime they put her on, but they never ran a test on her. I then got a call from the breeder telling me that another one of her pups had been diagnosed with coccidia......off I ran again, she was vomitting by then....they put her on Albon on top of the other med....big mistake....she went down on me...eyes fixed and dilated...dirreah, vomitting.....I ran to the vet and in the lobby started screaming at the staff and the vet.....I screamed so loud telling him that if he didn't save her I'd have his practice. They put her on IV's balanced her blood sugar levels, kept her for two days.....Soon after I learned you never, never give Albon with any other med.

I would mention this to your breeder, if you haven't already.....she may reimburse you for your vet costs.

The reason your posts are being held is because you're new....something within the program, nothing you've written.

I am so relieved to hear he's doing better. Have been so worried for him since reading this last night.

Again, I commend you for taking him to the vet promptly (all 3 times) and not waiting until it was too late.

Wishing you smooth sailing from here on out!

So glad to hear your little doodle bug is on the mend. Don't feel like a bad mommy though, everything with these little one's is different and everyone learns through trial and error. Here's to hoping he comes home tomorrow safe and sound and as good as new.

Love update #2 on doodle

Ok so we just got home from visiting doodle and oh my gosh he is a totally different baby!!!! The girls at that vets office/animal hospital are absolutly amazing!!! We both got off at around midnight tonight and we spoke to the same girl that helped him lastnight and she was like sure come on in and visit your baby!!! As soon as he seen us he was wiggling from head to tail and giving us those lil puppy kisses all over our face with his lil snake tongue and boy we missed that even tho im not a big fan of puppy kisses period but those were VERY MUCH WELCOMED!!!!!!! They said it was the coccidia and the meds and just a combination of everything that made his bs run so low for his poor little body to maintain even with our help... They dont think there is any underlying problems with him they just think it was the combination of everything it was just too much for him... He is on the liquid form of albon and they are sending us home with also (which the first vet gave us pills and it was a pistol trying to get him to take them and we didnt understand why he didnt give us liquid in the first place) So they are keeping him overnight tonight to moniter him and his bs and he is expected to make a full recovery!!! And come home tomorrow!!! It really did our hearts good to see him back to himself and it was all thanks to the prayers from all the people he doesnt even know =) Thank you all again so much from the bottom of our hearts for all your thoughts and prayers <3 Im sure this will not be the last time you all hear from doodle and myself lol I took pictures but i just have to figure out how to post them all on here so you all can see how much better he looks today... We have decided now to take all our furbabies there from now on!!!

I'm glad that your baby is doing so much better. Can you please ask the Vet if they sell the Nutrical so you buy some and have that on hand for him.

Am thrilled to read this post. I can't help loving little Doodle's fighting spirit - and his momma's fight to get him good care. Still praying.

NutriCal can be purchased at PetSmart or PetCo. Just great to keep on hand. Your little guy is so cute, keep in mind over handling him can cause a hyperglycemic attack.

Oh wow thank you so much i had no idea about that!!! My mom said that she wondered if holding and handling him too much would make him sore or have any effect on him.... And it turns out it does!! Thank you so much!!!

I'm so happy to hear the great news. I can just picture Doddle wiggling and kissing you..... what a happy thought.

Since you are a diabetic yourself, you know how important it is to manage his blood sugar. Lots of small protein packed/balanced meals are important.

Nutrical is sold at most pet stores, but use it properly when needed. Over use can actually trigger hypoglycemia.

Good luck, can't wait to see more pictures of your cutie.
