It was the whole body of the tick! The tick was latched onto the skin and the back end was swollen like a big sack because it was filling up with the blood it was sucking. Ewww! You have ticks in Cali. They are everywhere. I tend to associate them with woods and fresh water lakes and streams. Here is an interesting website:
