Just now leaving Purdue. Check up went well. They said to continue full crate rest. We will return in nine days for another check and x rays. They felt like x rays today would be too soon.

So, all in all this is good! Would be nice to be done with crate rest, but we will keep doing it if that is what is best for him. They didn't even charge us for the check up today, which was awesome of them. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts...they are working!

So, nine days to go...... :)

yorkietalkjilly 03-21-2011 09:32 AM

So far so good then. Sorry for the 9 more days but if that is the treatment he needs, it better than surgery risk. Course your sanity may be at risk after another 9 days of trying to keep him down. Prayers will continue for Peyton.

ladyjane 03-21-2011 09:41 AM

It may take even longer than that. I have had some on crate rest for up to 8 weeks and that was with surgery.
But...it does get easier.

ladyjane 03-21-2011 09:41 AM

Oh, and that was nice of them not to charge for the visit! :)

She is giving me some medicine to keep him comfy for tonight. I'll just have to make sure he takes it easy. I will prob have to leave him overnight when he has the surgery though.

Ladyjane, thanks for the support and advice. It helps when making these kind of decisions.

I truly love Peyton so much. I want to do what is best for him. I'm just so sorry he is even in this situation. I will make sure he gets the very best care. He is worth it and so much more.

I'm so glad you're doing the best for your baby, asking and following advice  of more experienced and Yorkie lovers-YTs. I know how you feel, I've made my share of mistakes with my babies.

When I made my mistakes, this words helped me through so that I could focus on what I had to do at the moment to get my babies back to health. Maybe it can help you a bit from feeling so guilty : "I did then what I knew how to do, now that I know better, I do better" (Maya Angelou).

We learn from our mistakes :(

My prayers and good vibes are with you and baby Peyton. :aimeeyork

Bitsy 03-21-2011 10:09 AM

That is just like what I always say "When you know better, you should do better." Of course Maya Angelo says it much more beautifully than I ever could. I'll have to memorize that. :)

Yes, it could take longer , but I am really hoping it doesn't. One week at a time for us. I would be so grateful to avoid surgery. I'll do whatever it takes.

That was nice of them! Nine more days. Peyton will be ok. He's probably getting used to it by now.:) I hope they will set Peyton free, after the next checkup.

Oh, yes, I like the way you say it too. It reminds me that I'm responsible for applying what I've learned

I'm thinking of you and Peyton and praying for good news!

shodanusmc 03-30-2011 09:24 AM

How is the pup doing? Yes, accidents happen so fast. Basil is doing good, but each day is a long one as he does not like being on limited duty! He walks good with the cast, and it does not seem to bother him, but he hates the x=pen for the confinement. My wife is gone for 4 days on business, and Basil and the other 2 dogs are going out of their way to make it difficult for me.

We learned that no one outside of us will ever pick up and hold Basil. Had dogs all of my life, and that is a lot of years, and never had a dog hurt under my watch. Well, I can't say that anymore. Sounds like you did the right thing with your guy, and hope he makes a complete recovery.

Bitsy 03-30-2011 10:04 AM

Just a quick update...I'll post more when I get home. Peyton has to have surgery. :( had to leave him at Purdue...surgery tomorrow. I'm so disappointed and sad. Was really hoping he was all healed. My poor boy. PLEASE pray for him. I don't know how I could handle another loss. I'm so worried for him.

Buster Brown 03-30-2011 10:16 AM

Poor baby and poor mommy. I was hoping to hear a more positive update. I am sorry to hear he has to have surgery. Sending prayers for a successful operation and for a smooth and complete recovery for Peyton. I feel for you I remember how scared I was when Buster went in for his LP surgery in October. He will be fine and be in your loving arms soon. Best Wishes.

miabellaamoure 03-30-2011 10:21 AM

Oh Bitsy, I'm so sorry Peyton has to have surgery but, it sounds like he's in the best of hands!

Will be thinking of only positive thoughts for Peyton's surgery and recovery!

Be strong!:)

Please do not beat yourself up either. It may have been your watch but you did not have the accident. So the kids are acting up now that mom is gone. LOL Glad to hear the newest recruit is feeling better.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! I will be praying for sweet Peyton, and for you. *HUG*

ladyjane 03-30-2011 10:58 AM

I am sure that Peyton will be fine. He is in a good place! :) I am sorry that he has to have the surgery after all, but it will heal well after that!
Prayers for you and your little Peyton.

BonBon 03-30-2011 11:17 AM

I'm sorry to hear he needs surgery, but he's in good hands - he'll be home in your arms before you know it. Sending prayers and hugs for you and Peyton.

TxVicki 03-30-2011 11:26 AM

Prayers going out for Peyton for his surgery tomorrow. I'm sorry it has to be done, but I know he will be just fine.

Bitsy 03-30-2011 11:35 AM

Thanks everyone. Ugh....so disappointing...but no matter what I will make sure he gets the best care and treatment possible. The rest I will leave in God's capable hands.

When they examined him they said it seemed a tiny bit swollen....she said you would only notice the difference if you knew he had an injury there. Then he had x rays....the growth plate has moved quite a bit. It was obvious to my inexperienced eyes. She said that it just sometimes happens.

The surgery they will do is a bit different. His little bones are too small for pins, so they will use a suture secured to the muscle above the injury, and pull it down and attach it to a hole drilled in the bone, this will hold the growth plate in it's proper place. The sutures will be permanant unless they become infected. I may not be describing this perfectly, but that is the gist of it.

Crate rest after the surgery for a grown dog is 6-8 weeks...she said it might go quicker since he is a growing puppy.

I feel so bad. What a stupid mistake I made setting him on that chair. I feel like I am robbing him of his puppyhood. The next two days are going to be tough....thanks for being there for me and letting me share.

Prayers and good thoughts for surgery and recovery

Maximo 03-30-2011 12:11 PM

Bitsy, I am so sorry that Peyton has to have surgery. He remains in my prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. I'm glad he has great doctors and a great mommy to make sure he has the best possible care.

It's been said many times, and I'll say it again, accidents happen. Don't be hard on yourself.

{{{{Hugs}}}}

AllDogBoots 03-30-2011 12:23 PM

I'm so sorry that you didn't hear better news today. Don't worry so much as sweet Peyton is going to be fine! And don't be hard on yourself at all; as many people stated accidents do happen. 6 weeks is a long time at all, although it may see like it. He'll be healed before you know it!

kionini 03-30-2011 12:44 PM

Oh, no :( I feel so bad for you and Peyton. Sending good vibes and prayers so that healing comes quickly for the baby and we hear about a happy ending soon

Bitsy 03-30-2011 01:15 PM

Thanks everyone...your kind messages brought tears to my eyes.

The student assigned to his case just called with an update. They are really good about giving updates. She said he didn\'t do too well when I left. He is super attached to me...and me to him! She said she got him out and has been holding him most of the afternoon and will do so as much as she can the rest of the night. That made me feel good. I almost asked if that was possible, but I didn\'t because I figured it wouldn\'t be. See, God is good even in bad times. He answers our hearts prayers.

She said she\'ll call again tonight and in the morning. He is scheduled first for surgery at 9 am. If all goes well he might be able to come home Friday afternoon.
