Yorkie Yakker | Sebastian Hi Everyone, I've got a yorkie that is 10-12 years, he was a rescue and I've had him for almost five years. The last couple of days he has been listless and seems to have lost weight, he isn't eating his hard food at all but is drinking and going potty ok. Any ideas? Am I just nervous? Hopefully this is just part of aging but I'm just not sure....thanks....susan |

| Not normal. He should see a vet very soon. Any unexplained weight loss and lethargy/not eating for more than a day are all causes for concern.

| I would take him to the vet just to be on the safe side. I'm always happy to hear about a rescued dog. Hope everything will be OK. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I agree a vet visit is in order. Maybe his teeth are bothering him. Hope it is something minor.

Yorkie Yakker | Sebastian Thanks for the replies, I'm so hesitant to take Sebastian in to a vet, I know I need to, I don't know how many of you remember me but I am the one that had taken in a rescue named Kia, it was a sad story of cushings that ultimately led to her demise after only haveing her a few weeks, devastating is putting it lightly. I'm not happy with the vet we were using, $4000 later on Kia we had to have her put down. Just a devastating story. Sebastian has been with me for five years. He is current on his shots and his teeth are beautiful, had them done a few months ago, he is neutered of course and has his hair done regularly. I honestly can't take another diagnosis of one thing only to have something else take him out. With Kia we were treating cushings like crazy (I might add I would have lost her earlier if it hadn't been for some of the ladies on this site, she would NOT eat and the pills for cushings made her sick, just a mess really, anyway<) we finally found out after I insisted on a sonogram that Kia had a rock in her stomach!!!! The surgery by that time was just to much for her and she never pulled out of it, couldn't come off the IV. I can't take another mess like that with Sebastian. If its him time I want him to go with the love and respect he deserves, not just treated to death. I'll find another vet I guess and take him in tomorrow, he's doing the same today, just tired, he's eating soft dog food, I give him small amounts every few hours and he is drinking fine, pooping ok also, just very tired. Thank you all so much.... |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Avoiding the vet isn't going to help him at all. You need to put your feelings and fears aside and do what is best for Sebastian.

| Please take Sebastian to the vet. He is not all that old so I would not think it is 'his time'. It it could be something simple like a toothache. He may just need antibiotics for awhile.

| Sebastian's Vet Appointment Sorry I didn't respond sooner. March 1 we took my little boy in. He was diagnosed with conjestive heart failure, his lungs were full of fluid and his temp was high (103). I said goodbye to my little guy and we had him euthanized. The vet said it was the best thing to do as Sebastian was in very critical state. She autopsied him the next day and one of the things she found was a blood vessel in his brain that had burst, he also had a blood vessel going into his heart that was ready to burst. I'll know more this next week. I knew in my heart that it was time and I'm glad I did not make him suffer any longer, but the pain that his leaving has caused is just tearing me apart. I just can't stand it. I only had Sebastian a little over three years, and every single minute of every day he was at my side, I miss him so much..... |
