My vet uses Benadryl prior to vaccinations if there is a hint that there could be a reaction.

Steroids are used after if there is a reaction.

Again, I will not give a vaccine to a pup that has had a reaction. That is my choice and my vet does not argue that point at all.

Anaphylaxis is because of the release of histamine from the histamine receptors. Antibody response is from different receptors. However, I see what you're saying, if prednisone suppresses both histamine response and is used to suppress immune response, why would you expect a vaccine to work? That is a very good point.
