My little dog Daisy has this strange problem. Since we no longer have our dog insurance, I thought I would ask your opinions on the matter. She has this hard "shell" of dried pee and blood, from her vaginal area. We wipe our dogs as they come in from outside. And normally the fur is not hard, but recently it has been. What could be the problem? Does my dog have a urinary tract infection? Or worse? And what can I do, she's bathed regularly and her diet is very stable. Any advice?

That would be something that I personally wouldn't try to guess about. I'd call the Vet. and ask that question to find out if they need to be checked out. Hope it isn't serious.

Is your little girl fixed? Is she in heat? I've never heard of dried pee & blood, could she have a yeast infection? I would think that this is something you are going to have to see the vet for, we are only pet owners like you and you wouldn't want to wait to save money and then lose your little girl. Good Luck and let us know what you do.

I'm not interested in messages about going to see a vet. I already saw a vet, she did know why either just gave me generic meds. I was looking to see if anyone here has encountered this before. So if, so please respond, if not please don't tell me to see a vet.

Is she a breeder? Dogs can get uterine infections too. Call Revival animal and run it by one of their techs..... they are my best kept secret and I just love em.

what you're describing could be a multitude of things. if she's not spayed she could be in heat. it could be a urinary tract infection or bladder infection. it could also be something more serious like kidney or bladder stones. none of us here are vets so while we can give you all sorts of might be's and could be's, the only way to know for sure what it is and get treatment if necessary is to get a diagnosis from a vet. and honestly, if the vet you went to couldn't give you a diagnosis I would seriously consider finding a new vet. it's not worth having a minor issue become a major problem because of a missed diagnosis or a misdiagnosis. You may not want to hear it, but the #1 answer you're going to get is "go see a vet" Hope you get this cleared up soon.

You said you do not have insurance which leads me to believe you don't wish to pay for a vet.
Maybe you don't wish to hear it, but I am going to say it again, Go to a vet!
It is difficult for me to understand how people think they can come online and get veterinary advice. Even a vet would not be able to diagnose this online! Your poor pup needs to be seen by a vet. If you cannot afford her, perhaps you need to consider surrendering her to a rescue so that she can be properly cared for.

My dogs get something similar. I think it's concentrated urine that stays on the hair and keeps accumulating. I found that trimming the hair back helps. If you are using baby wipes, they may irritate, try changing brands. Also, it could be a UTI... is she urinating more frequently than normal? Has she had UTIs in the past? If so, a urinalysis would be a good test to help determine what is going on with her. If the urinalysis comes back positive for infection and/or crystals, then an xray and an ultrasound of the abdomin would also be a good thing to check the kidneys, bladder, liver and gallbladder. A Bile Acid Test would be good to do too.

So sorry, You need to take her to see a vet. If you care about your dog. This could be a serious problem.

Actually we did see what you quoted....it came after the original post quoted above. I do not believe a vet has been seen.
IMHO it is not our place to guess what is wrong with the OPs pup or any pup for that matter.

I think you ought to get back on your pet insurance "before" getting a clear diagnosis in case your dog has a serious problem. You can get that out of the way quick, and THEN, go and see a vet. A different vet from the one you have already seen. Afterall, if it doesn't turn out to be anything serious, you can cancel the pet insurance again.

I have to ask because I really do not know....what are generic drugs?
How and why would a vet prescribe "generic drugs" if the vet doesn't know what the problem is?
