Puzzled? My little dog Daisy has this strange problem. Since we no longer have our dog insurance, I thought I would ask your opinions on the matter. She has this hard "shell" of dried pee and blood, from her vaginal area. We wipe our dogs as they come in from outside. And normally the fur is not hard, but recently it has been. What could be the problem? Does my dog have a urinary tract infection? Or worse? And what can I do, she's bathed regularly and her diet is very stable. Any advice? |
That would be something that I personally wouldn't try to guess about. I'd call the Vet. and ask that question to find out if they need to be checked out. Hope it isn't serious. |
Is your little girl fixed? Is she in heat? I've never heard of dried pee & blood, could she have a yeast infection? I would think that this is something you are going to have to see the vet for, we are only pet owners like you and you wouldn't want to wait to save money and then lose your little girl. Good Luck and let us know what you do. |
Daisy needs to be seen by a vet! |
Thank you but no. I'm not interested in messages about going to see a vet. I already saw a vet, she did know why either just gave me generic meds. I was looking to see if anyone here has encountered this before. So if, so please respond, if not please don't tell me to see a vet. |

what you're describing could be a multitude of things. if she's not spayed she could be in heat. it could be a urinary tract infection or bladder infection. it could also be something more serious like kidney or bladder stones. none of us here are vets so while we can give you all sorts of might be's and could be's, the only way to know for sure what it is and get treatment if necessary is to get a diagnosis from a vet. and honestly, if the vet you went to couldn't give you a diagnosis I would seriously consider finding a new vet. it's not worth having a minor issue become a major problem because of a missed diagnosis or a misdiagnosis. You may not want to hear it, but the #1 answer you're going to get is "go see a vet" Hope you get this cleared up soon. |
You said you do not have insurance which leads me to believe you don't wish to pay for a vet. Maybe you don't wish to hear it, but I am going to say it again, Go to a vet! It is difficult for me to understand how people think they can come online and get veterinary advice. Even a vet would not be able to diagnose this online! Your poor pup needs to be seen by a vet. If you cannot afford her, perhaps you need to consider surrendering her to a rescue so that she can be properly cared for. |

Actually we did see what you quoted....it came after the original post quoted above. I do not believe a vet has been seen. IMHO it is not our place to guess what is wrong with the OPs pup or any pup for that matter. |
I think you ought to get back on your pet insurance "before" getting a clear diagnosis in case your dog has a serious problem. You can get that out of the way quick, and THEN, go and see a vet. A different vet from the one you have already seen. Afterall, if it doesn't turn out to be anything serious, you can cancel the pet insurance again. |
I have to ask because I really do not know....what are generic drugs? How and why would a vet prescribe "generic drugs" if the vet doesn't know what the problem is? |

My first thought was if one vet didn't know, why not seek a second opinion? What generic drug was she given? What was the drug for? |

In any case, if what she's on isn't helping, then she needs to be seen again. If she doesn't have confidence in the first vet, then she needs to find another one right away to prevent potentially painful and expensive complications. |
Reading her posts, I am thinking that by generic she meant a broad spectrum antibiotic, which would be the first course of action for a suspected UTI. In any case, if what she's on isn't helping, then she needs to be seen again. If she doesn't have confidence in the first vet, then she needs to find another one right away to prevent potentially painful and expensive complications.[/QUOTE] I agree with you:thumbup::thumbup: |
LOL, you quoted me before I could finish editing my post. I took out the part about the UTI because although this is what her symptoms suggest might be going on, it would be inappropriate of me to say for sure that is what happened. |
I do not know why I bother to answer...you are not going to liek my post... See another vet...urine check for infection...go from there for proper meds. |

Thank you Thank you for all who responded, I will keep you posted of her condition. |

I hardly doubt the OP is going to want to spend $80 for BATs, but then I dont know...maybe since you suggested it she will. :) And further....how much is the ultrasound you are thinking might be needed? I am fascinated that she thinks you think like her.....and yet you are suggesting very expensive testing that only a vet can do. |
uterine infection As a pet lover and a human all around who chooses NOT to snipe and judge people for exploring options online~ We are a yorkie community and this should be a place where anyone with a love for this breed(or any other) can come to ask for some advise without all this sarcasm. Now someone has asked for our advise without neededing to share every detail or be torn at. So lets put on our best and look for some help. Again....darlin. maybe it's just staining like all the other details some sweet girls shared. I know how hard and expensive vet bills can be and the alternative when you dont have funds is the next best thing. the internet and research. So, I think I liked the one persons advise that you seek getting some insurance before you get a firm diagnoisis and itf that is not in your cards then go to the REVIVAL ANIMAL gals and techs for some help. I love that company personally.....hold on a min and I'll find you a number.....ok got it. 1-800-786-4751...I love these sweethearts who go the extra mile , are down to earth and help with finding you a solution.. love em love em love em. So NO JUDGMENT and good luck finding help with your baby and I personally thank you for letting me try and help a fellow yorkie lover. |

The day I tell people how to treat their pups and avoid going to the vet is the day I hope someone takes my computer away from me. The op snapped at all of us who suggested she take her pup to a vet....oh nothing wrong with her snapping, but you question my sarcasm? Seems to me that the majority suggested the reasonable thing to do and one person only wanted to appease. To each his own...she asked for advice and I believe the best advice she got was exactly what the majority gave her. She doesn't like it? So what? The dog probably does not like having whatever is wrong with it either. As for suggesting insurance fraud....well let's just say I avoided that post, but people thinking like that is exactly what is wrong with our country's insurance problems! People need to be RESPONSIBLE and that is the bottom line. If you have children, make sure you can afford to raise them. Same goes for pets...don't have them if you cannot afford the care. Pretty simple in my way of thinking. |
