| Little guy hasn't been feeling well since I brought him home Hi, I just got a new yorkie a few days ago and he hasn't been doing to well. The first day home he was playful jumping around. Now he's been sleeping all day. He hasn't ate solid food since he's been home either. I've tried dry food, wet food and he rejects it all. Called the pet store to see what he was eating there and they said he was eating the nutro just fine so I get that and he hasn't ate a bite of it yet. Im worried now because its going on about 3 days now. He doesn't drink on his own either. I have to use a syringe to get the water in his mouth. Gonna get him into the vet this week, but trying to figure out what the problem could be. thanks for any help guys. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry to hear your puppy is sick. SInce he hasn't eaten for so long he needs immediate vet care. These little ones go hypoglycemic (Low sugar) if not eating frequently. Puppies from pet stores (most likely a puppy mill) are at great risk for parasites, low sugar, kennel cough and need to be seen by a vet as soon as you get them. If he hasn't eaten in 3 days he needs to go to an er vet tonight. Have you given him Nutrical? When I got my Cali she had giardia and kennel cough and went hypoglycemic from not eating. I finally got her to eat Cesars canned food until I could get her eating well on he own and then switched her to a better food. You can try a little boiled chicken and rice or boiled hamburger and rice. The main thing is to get him eating now. Please get him to the vet asap. Good luck.

| Is he drinking? If you do not have the nutristat, put some light karo syrup in some water and give it to him with a syringe. This is critical Do not let him go another minute without getting something into his stomach. |

| Thanks for the help guys. Patti, can you tell me how you got yours to eat the Cesars? I bought a packet of this and he would not eat this either. Put it on my finger and put it on the roof of his mouth and he still spits it out. |

| You can try a mixture of baby rice cereal, some gerber chicken and goats milk and karo. mix it real thin and syringe it to him. |

| Maybe make some plain chicken and see if he'll eat that. Do you have any Nutri-Cal? You can give him some everyday to get in the calories he's losing.

| Please listen to all the good advice. Your little guy could be in serious danger. Three days is a long time for yorkies. How old is he? How much does he weigh? Please, please get him some help asap. If it were me I'd take him to the er vet. Something isn't right...follow your instincts and get him help. Please update us when you can.

| Oh, dear. My adult eight pound Lady can dehydrate in 36 hours with a tummy upset and not eating. This puppy needs to see a ER vet asap. He is probably dehydrated and hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) at the very least and that can be life threatening. Since he came from a pet store, he could be a very sick little puppy. |

Yorkie Yakker | This happened to myTwinkle when I first got her.(Hypoglycemia) It is always wise to keep Nutrical, even when they won't eat they will usually lick it off your finger. Go get babyfood (chicken) and karo syrup and feed this through a syringe if he does not eat it and make sure he gets enough every few hours. You can also buy sweet potatoes, they usually eat that as well. Your baby needs to eat. If your baby came from a pet store I would get him to a vet sooner then later. Good luck to you and your baby. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I bought the little tins of Cesar's beef and put some on a paper plate and warmed it a little and hand fed her every 3-4 hours. She ate a little each time reluctantly but as she got better she started eating better. She came from a BYB and had coccidia (parasites) and kennel cough. She was 9 weeks old and 1 lb. Now she is a 5 lb chow hound. Hopefully you got him to a vet to determine any underlying medical issues and he will start eating and feeling better soon.

| -Update- I just took him in today. His temperature was fine and no signs of parasites. He was dehydrated though. So they're keeping him until Wednesday so they can get food and what not into him. The Doc said, he could be depressed with the new enviorment (reason he's not eating I guess?) Anyways, thanks everyone for the help. Glad to be part of forums. |
