I would be worried that her blood work may be off... possibly causing a seizure.... might be wise to borrow funds to at least get that checked before she delivers her pups...

I got some money I called the vet and they said bring her in tomorrow she said there is no cause to really worry till a dog has had more than 1 seizure because a dog can have a fluke seizure. But because she is pregnant I've decided I want her examed anyways so I'm bringing her in tomorrow for an exam, as well as I'm going to have an x ray done to see how many pups to expect. They gave me the number to the emergency vet in the mean time but like I said its 2 hours away. Just hope she can hold out till tomorrow when we see the vet ill let you know what happens

Where are you in Ontario? Most vets here will treat your dog, and let you pay on installment plan, particularly if they know you.

Please keep us updated. And you will need to find funds to care for the pups, and possibly and emergency C section

Please come back and update us after you've seen the vet today. I'm a little surprised by the attitude of the vet though. Yes, sometimes a seizure is a one time occurance, but there is always an underlying reason for it.

I'm betting she fell off the couch and landed on her head. The OP should not allow this tiny girl to jump on & off the furniture ever , much less while PG. Steps & ramps are a must for these tiny ones, as I'm sure You know.

Watch for a green discharge as the fall might have killed a pup, placenta can detach in a fall also...watch her close.

Default thank you everyone UPDATE

Hello everyone
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Bird had her babies and I had trouble making my way back to my thread!

Bird went to the vet due to haveing a seizure as stated above. They did blood work and the doc said her blood work is perfect he showed me ALL her levels are where they should be. This is good news for the babies but could be bad news for her furure! She could have epilepsy. He said it could be a fluke seizure and she won't be given medication in less she has another one in a eight week period!
So he takes her temp and says I should have pups within 24 hours!!! Almost a week later I'm getting ready to call the vet because now she is 1 day over due and showing NO signs! So the morning 6am (she is a day over and I'm waiting till 9am to call my vet) she jumps into her whelping box and I'm like that's weird. I can see her contracting but she isn't panting at all. I'm nervous but I keep calm and sit there. All of a sudden I look over and she is sitting there on this egg and I'm like, I lift her leg A PUPPY! She is looking at it like a alien came out of her so I break the membrane do everything I red on line and encourage her to lick it and she does and it was on from there! She did the rest on her own. No crying no panting she was sooo good!! 4 babies 1 girl and 3 boys!!!
It was so amazing! I'd love to do it again! I didn't know anything about puppy birth when I first stated but enjoy learning and enjoy the research. Bird got pegnant because she stoped bleeding and I thought that ment her heat was over but I learned a lesson and about the heat cycle! I never wanted her to get pregnant in fact I wanted to get her fixed I just kept putting it off. Because of the seizure I am still getting her fixed. But I am thinking about getting a breeding mentor and doing this breeding thing right!
I really like this site and will continue to use it. Hopefully I will learn how to post pics and videos too
By the way -- I NEED to mention bird is a yorkie and the dad is a yorkie poo and only 1 maybe 2 of the babies look yorkie in color (I won't know more till they grow of course) but isn't that weird huh. That's another reason why I wouldn't breed her again I don't have pedigree for her and want to breed to better the breed not concoct new breeds lol.

I am glad to hear your Birdie beat the odds and survived as well as delivering her pups. Also VERY glad to hear you are spaying her so this never happens again. You will have a long way to go if you plan to get into breeding. Not only study and finding a mentor, but you need to get financially solvent before you undertake something like breeding. It is expensive if you do it right.

Finding appropriate dogs to breed is a challenge in itself. The breeders that have the breeding quality pups are not eager to give full registration so you can breed them. Most normally only sell with limited registration -- meaning you can get papers but you cannot register a litter. They will sell with full registration only when they determine you are ready and meet their qualifications. You may be able to find pet quality breeders that give full registration, but better to find a mentor breeder willing to give you a chance with quality pups.

Once you have your pups, you have to wait and see that they do, indeed meet conformation and pass all of their genetic testing. The vet visits to get all pre-mating tests on both the female and male will not be cheap but it is well worth it and considered a must. You will get a full panel of blood work, a BAT, and the STD tests. They will do a full xray on each pup to get your OFA certification showing the joints are all good. An eye exam is required to get the CERF certification. I would also have at least two show breeders evaluate for conformation and give their opinion on breedability. You cannot breed the female for at least a minimum of 18 months and never on the first heat. So, it should be closer tothe 2 year mark. That 2 years should be spent reading all you can on breeding, attending any classes you can find, watching a couple of litters beig born with your mentor, and generally preparing yourself and your environment for mating, whelping, and puppy rearing.

Now you are ready to start putting some of the study and mentoring knowledge to use. But be sure you have several thousand in reserve in case a C-section is needed or other complications happen. You lucked out with Birdie -- especially after the seizure. Don't count on that luck -- you have to be prepared to take care of them. It is a HUGE responsibility and they deserve to have you well prepared to help them in any situation.

Just reread what I wrote and I made it sound like all the testing is done 2 years in advance -- not so. Once she is an adult you can do some, but the STD tesitng has to be done just before mating -- about 2 weeks before. Also after mating, you will want a visit to confirm pregnancy and see how it is going, another about day 51 to get xrays to see how many puppies to expect. You should bring her and the puppies in after pups are born to make sure they are all well and make sure mom doesn't need anything. So you are doing things well in advance, just before mating, after mating, just before whelping, just after whelping.......lots of vet visits! You can see what I mean when I said it is expensive if you do it right.

Also you wrote: "By the way -- I NEED to mention bird is a yorkie and the dad is a yorkie poo and only 1 maybe 2 of the babies look yorkie in color (I won't know more till they grow of course) but isn't that weird huh. " No -- not really weird at all. When you are breeding a yorkie with a mixed breed, the outcome is hard to predict. None may look like a yorkie, some or all. I hope you ensure all of those puppies are also neutered or spayed so the mixed breeds are not continued.
