| Take her temp. What does her discharge look like? Watch her very close and get the emergency vet number handy. They can go bad so very quickly. I knew my momma dog was trying to tell me something. She kept leaving her pups (which she never did first litter) and just staring at me. She had a nasty looking discharge. I kept calling the vet and they kept reassuring me that they all act different and as long as the discharge was not bright red, not to worry. She had no temp that night. I talked the vet into an appt for the next day, then took her in early when she started looking weak and would not eat or drink. By the time we got to the vet she was acting like she had no strength to raise her head. They could not save her. If I had listened to what she was trying to tell me the night before, I should have taken her in regardless of what the vet said. If you see any additional symptom of something wrong, I would get to the ER vet. They seem to know to come to us for help, if only they could talk. It still seems unreal to me how she went from having such vague symptoms to not being saved overnight. I tried to tell the vet tech she was just not acting like she had the first time. The way she was just staring at me seemed obvious that she needed help, I just did not know what she needed help with. But without anything concrete, they just tried to reassure me and probably thought I was a worry wart. I can see now that by the time they are running the fever, showing serious symptoms, it may just be too late to save them. My feeling now is that if YOU feel she is not acting normal -- take her to the vet. The worst that can happen is you pay a needless vet visit bill. The best that could happen is you save her life. Any question, err on the side of caution! BTW -- are you giving her calcium? They sometimes get really low on calcium and can act strange, up to starting to lose balance and even seizures. Bigger litters can deplete their calcium quickly. If you do not have calcium supplement from vet, try giving her 1/2 of a Tums.

| Just got back from the vet. She had 102.3 temp and he thought she was trying to get an infection. Because I caught it right away she will be fine. He gave her a shot to make her uterus go down and gave me antibiotics. He believes she will be fine by morning!! WHEW!!! |

| Thanks Patti -- it hurts to tell and I have a renewed guilt each time, but I think every owner that is breeding their girl needs to hear it. It is a huge risk every time we breed our Yorkies. We know them better than anyone and we have to follow our instinct. I just took my puppy Annie in the other day and paid for an xray she probaby didn't need, but I have promised myself I will always err on the side of caution from now on. So much better to have an extra vet visit than to lose a precious pup, or have them hurting.
