Hello everyone =)

Coco had a recent surgery about 2 weeks ago due to a lump that he had under his throat which turned out to be an infected absissa. Now the doctor found ANOTHER lump on the other side of the throat which he says is a symmetrical absissa and that if the antibiotics don't work he'll have to remove it surgically as well. So Coco was prescribed Zeniquin 50mg and Novo-Lexin 250mg which are to be taken at the same time. So it's been 2 weeks and the lump HASN'T GONE AWAY. The doctor said in this case that he has to do surgery again. My question and worry is that do you guys think it's okay for him to go under anesthesia AGAIN in less than a month or should I get a second opinion from another doctor?..I also can't seem to understand why these antibiotics in combination are not working!? Let me know your opinions!

Hmm 2nd surgery in a month? I would definitely ask for 2nd opinion. It doesn't even hurt to ask for 2nd opinion, right?

I would think a second opinion, maybe a different Antibiotic before a second surgery that close to the last...

I would get a second opinion. Maybe a switch in the antibiotics. Maybe a conservative approach making another surgery the last option. Good luck to you and your baby.

Hi everyone

So I went for a second opinion and the doctor suspects that that the abscissa is right on the lymph node...so he says next week he will drain it and send the results to a laboratory to see what is the origin of this infection. I'm just wondering what is the lymph node? And is it a bad thing if it is infected and inflamed.....? I would really appreciate any advice! Thanks

Did he say anything about the lymph node being enlarged?

Yeah, he mentioned the infection and the inflammation of the skin is situated right on the lymph node. He's not 100% sure about the origin of the infection so after he drains it he wants to sent it to a lab to have it examined that way we can be assured as to what it is...I'm so worried...It's weird though because Coco seems so fine. He's energetic,he's eating well, his lifestyle has NOT changed one bit..and yet he has this huge lump that just won't go away...I don't know what to think I just want to get the test over with and find out the results..

Lyphm nodes are a part of the infection fighting system. Blood gets filtered through the lymph node, and some of the infectious stuff gets destroyed.

Here's a good basic diagram of lymph node locations in a dog.
